JARE/YARA Town Name Help #hungary

Pamela Weisberger <pweisberger@...>

Thanks to all who offered translations of my family "shiviti." I'm now
seeking help on clarifying the
place of residence for Samuel Weisz's family, which has been translated
variously as the:

city/town/place/settlement of:

YARA, YARE, JARE, YAREH

based on the Hebrew letters:

yud alef resh ayin

I would like suggestions as to the identity of this town. Sixteen years
after this document was created
the family was living in Nagy Tarkany, Zemplen County (today, Velke Trakan,
Slovakia) and Samuel was born in Ungvar/Uhzgorod, so I believe the town had
to be in this general region (Transcarpathia, Zemplen, Ung, or Szabolcs
County) of Hungary.

Could another possibility be the similarity of the Hungarian word: JARAS,
simply meaning "district?"

I also know that the family was living in the town of GYURE in the late
1850s (or something with a simliar spelling) based on the 1869 Zemplen
County census. Based on the Hebrew alphabet conversion of the Hungarian
spelling of that town...is it possible that Gyure could equal Yare?

Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!
