Re: Country origin for the name BERTA? #hungary

Berta, according my book "Lado Janos: Magyar utonevek" came >from the
German Berta, and this >from the goddess Perchta. She was the German
goddess of the winter solstice, also the goddesss of the birth of the
light. At the same time it is also pet name for names with -berta ending.

It is not a frequent but not an unusual name. More or less out of
curiosity I chacked a list of Bekescsaba >from the 40ies, between 619
names I found 19 women Berta.

Would anyone know the origin for the name BERTA? My Hungarian grandmother's
name was Berta, yet this seems to be an unusual name . I only heard of one
other Berta who happened to have been Viennese. (I am researching my
grandmother's ancestors, trying to find great grandparents.. Perhaps if I would know the
country origin for Berta, it may offer some leads.)
Many thanks,
