Would you please tell me if the following are in Sub-Carpathia?
Uzhgorod, Ukraine (formerly Ungvar, Hungary); Humenne, Slovakia
(formerly Hungary); Falesti, Moldova (formerly Romania).

Thank you.

Chaverim!

More than 45 Hungarian SIG supporters attended the 2005 IAJGS
conference in Las Vegas last week. In addition to the Hungarian SIG
luncheon and business meeting, there were a number of sessions of
interest those of us researching roots in Hungary as well as
formerly
Hungarian-speaking areas of Slovakia, Ukraine, Poland, Serbia, and
nearby regions. We will be uploading to the H-SIG website the
handout
that Pamela Weisberger produced for the H-SIG luncheon panel on
shtetl
trips. Watch for reports on other sessions and activities including
info >from Carol Robinson's presentation on new H-SIG research
projects.

If you have family >from Sub-Carpathia, you'll be excited to learn
that
this group met and is ready to launch projects for those with roots
in
this large area that is generally south of the Carpathian mountains
in
presentday Ukraine, Romania, and Slovakia. Contact Alfred Klein at
<alfredklein@yahoo.com> to sign up. If you're not sure whether

Moderator: Ungvar (now Uzhorod, Ukraine) and Homonna (now Humenne, Slovakia) are part of the formerly Hungarian-speaking areas that comprise sub-Carpathia (i.e. under the Carpathian Mountains). Moldova, formerly part of Romania, was not part of pre-Trianon Hungary.
