Re: Budapest City Archives Document Retrieval #hungary

Dear Diane,
I contacted them by email. Go to http://www.bparchiv.hu/ then click on the
UK flag - if you don't understand Hungarian - the email link is there:
bfl@...

I received a response >from Bea Baros - her email is barosb@...
The first email was detailed about the rules for acquiring documents from
the archives. It took a couple of emails to explain what I wanted. I
wanted a birth record and had gotten the family address >from the 1900 city
directory at http://www.bparchiv.hu/cgi-bin/lakas/lakas.pl
The family address and the birth date were key for them to retrieve records=
.
They will photocopy the record and mail it to you free. Certified copies
are charged for.
I hope this helps.
Sam

Jerry,

I contacted the archive in April of this year and received a reply >from B=
ea
Baros very quickly. It took another 2+ months and two more emails to
finally get my g uncle's birth records. The simple, uncertified photocop=
y
was free. There is a charge if you want a certified copy and there are
disclosure rules that apply that were made clear in Ms. Baros' first e-ma=
il.
I would suggest patience.

Can someone please advise the best way to obtain documents >from the Budap=
est
City Archives? There are about 15 documents that I would like to obtain, =
and
emailing the archivist in English for the process and cost hasn't been ve=
ry
successful. I did make contact the first day or so that the archives came
online and asked for the process. The archivist replied in English asking
which documents I was interested in. I replied immediately, and did so ag=
ain
a few days later, but never received an answer. I assume that they are
simply overwhelmed.

Thank you for whatever guidance you can offer.
