Where are the Mogeliv Birth records available, and how do I find them?

MODERATOR'S NOTE: Some years of the Mogilev birth records are available
from your local LDS Family History Library. I posted a message several
weeks ago about the availability of Belarus records. There is a JewishGen
Info File about LDS (Mormon) records with film numbers, etc. There is also
a partial index of births on one of the films. This index was translated
by Bella Nayyer, a former resident of Mogilev who now lives in Brooklyn,
NY. We are attempting to transfer a file with this index to a searchable
database on the Belarus SIG web site. However, everyone should be aware
that the index has the names of the fathers, not the names of the baby. In
addition, it is only for male births and doesn't include some years for
which records are available. In order to develope a more useful database,
it will be necessary to translated/transliterate the Russian/Hebrew records
on the microfilms. This will require a massive effort!
