Tomer Brunner writes: My g-g-g-g-grandfather, Michael
SQUARENINA (1774-1870), born and buried in Nadasch,
was a Hebrew typesetter, and worked for the famous
printer Anton Edler von SCHMID in Pressburg
(Bratislava, Slovakia) and in Vienna. Tomer then asks
where he might find books typeset by Michael and
published by Anton SCHMID.

Just to start with go to:

enter *Anton Schmid* into the Publisher slot and
*Hebrew* into the language slot. Library slot search
- all.

You will find 24 volumes in UK university libraries
and that some of them were published in Pressburg in
the right period.

Also if you enter *Schmid Publisher Judaica* into the
"best-known search engine" [see footnote], you will
find a number of books for sale - one or two are
priced at under 100 dollars - which is cheaper than
flying to the UK to see them.

Tomer will just have to convince himself that his
g-g-g-g- grandfather was the typesetter, if the date
of publication fits. Hardworking typesetters are
generally not listed by name.

I am sure other libraries throughout the world will
hold such volumes too - I have not done an exhaustive

I will have more to say about Edler von SCHMID [who
was not Jewish] and Hebrew manuscripts in a subsequent
