My wife's ancestors were >from two families, both widespread in the region west of Minsk, centering around Nowogrudok: 1) BORISHANSKI, BARISHANSKI, BORUSHANSKI, BORISHINSKI , ETC. The name is derived from Borishin, a small hamlet or nobleman's estate in the area. In America the name was shortened to Baris, Barish, and Boris.
2) CHERTOK, CZERTOK, CHERTOCK etc.
We have considerable information about both families dating back to the Revision Lists of 1806, when the Jews in the region first began to use family names, and continuing into the early 20th century.

Please provide me with what information you have on the 2) Chertok, etc. names and the Revision Lists of 1806 forward. We are a large family in Chicago, Il. with the name Chertow..My grandfather was Chaim Chertow..and arrived in the USA with his wife in 1906. There is additional Chertow family in London, England as well as in California. They are all related. Chaim Chertow had eight siblings..and his parents were Avraham and Sarah.. all >from Minsk or its surroundings. I hope you can fill in some of the missing blanks.
This is exciting news. Thanks for sharing.
