I recently learned about the death of Robert Neu, who served for many =
years as coordinator of the 1848 Hungarian Jewish Census records =
project, which was the first major component of the JewishGen =
collection of Hungarian census records. Even though his health had been =
in decline for some time, Robert's enthusiasm and commitment to =
Hungarian Jewish family research never waned. Those of you who worked =
with him on the 1848 records will recognize that his coordination of =
this project was of extraordinary value and will remain a fitting =
testament to him. The index of the 1848 census records was one of the =
first major additions to the Hungarian database and it =
has helped hundreds, if not thousands of researchers, trace their =
Hungarian Jewish families.
