For another good War Memorials site, check out www.roll-of-honour.com . It
not only lists very many memorials and the people commemorated on them but
the detail is incredible. The following is an example (>from Stoke Newington
War Memorial):

Sylvia COHEN: Civilian War Dead. Died 13th October 1940. Aged 20 of 293
Amhurst Road, Hackney. Daughter of Max and Esther Cohen. Who also were
killed Died at 157/161 Stoke Newington Road

whilst others have even more detail eg:

Albert COOK: Private 140182, 30th Field Company Royal Engineers Died from
wounds during the Messines operations on the 4th July 1917. Aged 29. Son of
John & Sarah Anne Cook of 15 Taunton Street, Swindon, Wilts Apprentice at
Great Western Railway works Came to Horsted Keynes. in 1907 with his sister
Gladys, later Mrs. W Mighall. Born in Swindon, enlisted in Brighton
Carpenter employed by Mr. Cohen of Courtlands . Buried in Bailleul Communal
Cemetery F 285

(>from Horsted Keynes, Sussex)

Many of the pages have photographs of the War Memorial, and in some cases
there are photographs of the individuals commemorated.
