Raymond Montanjees

I am very pleased to announce that Luca Ascoli will be coming to London
to give a talk to the Jewish Genealogical Society of Great Britain on
Sunday 15th September.

Luca’s talk will be entitled “The Development of the Jewish Communities and
the Origin of Jewish Surnames in Italy”.

Luca is the descendant of a family whose members belonged for centuries to
the Jewish community of Ancona. He has a degree in Jewish history >from the
University of London and a doctorate in Demography >from the University of Rome.
He has recently received Spanish citizenship due to the fact that his
ancestors were expelled in 1492 >from the town of Calatayud, in Aragón, Spain.
He is at present a Director of Eurostat, the statistical office of the
European Commission, in Luxembourg.
This promises to be a very interesting talk by Luca so please try to join us
if you are within reach.

The address is 14 Charterhouse Buildings, Goswell Road, London EC1M 7BA.
The nearest underground station is Barbican. We are located on the ground
floor of the Society of Genealogists and the meeting will take place in the
Lecture Room at 2pm. Please be on time, so the start of Luca’s talk is not
delayed. Our Library and Resource Centre will also be open afterwards if you
wish to do some of your own research.

The meeting and library are open to non-members of JGSGB at a small charge of
£5 per person to include refreshments.

Please email me at ginagem@hotmail.co.uk if you would like to attend.
We look forward to seeing some of you there.

Thank you
