Definitions of Askenazi and Sepharadi #general

Alexander Serebrenik <alicser@...>

In Hebrew "Ashkenaz" is German, so all jews originating >from German,
(and this means most of the european jews, since f.e. to Poland
and Russia jews came >from German) are called "Ashkenazi".
In the same way "Sepharad" means Spain, and "Sepharadim" are jews who
originate >from Spain (till 1492,...). This means f.e. that jews of
Syria or Gruzia are neither Ashkenazi nor Sepharadi !
In the last years in Israel the term "sepharadi" is used to denote
all jews coming >from the Asia or Africa, but this is completely wrong.
