As we have discussed here at length, it is not unlikely that a
woman--or a man--had two personal names and used them interchangably.
Is this a "recent" or "new world" phenomenon?

I ask because my grandfather, his wife, and all of his children had two names
(Charles Benjamin, Henry Isaac, Ruth Pescha, ...) but everything I have found
on my great grandfather only shows one name (Simon). This seems to be true
for both the Hebrew and "American" names.

Thanks for any enlightenment.
