Various documents indicate an discrepancy for my grandparents. I know that this is not unusual. There is an age discrepancy of 6 years for my grandparents between their age on the NJ Census and their ship arrivals . They both had the same age discrepancy even though they entered the country at different times. I have reason to believe that the census age is correct even though the ship arrival age shows them both to be 6 years younger. Is there any reason that immigrants would lower their actual age on the ship manifest?
