I don't pretend to be an expert in Jewish immigration patterns from
Europe to Canada but I am aware of some published works which deal with
these early immigrants. Barbara, you may wish to read the following
published works:

"The Jews of Toronto: A History to 1937", by Stephen A. Speisman
(McClelland & Stewart, 1979)

"Taking Root: The Origins of the Canadian Jewish Community", by Gerald
Tulchinsky (Lester Publishing Limited, 1992).

In terms of personal reminiscences of immigration >from Europe to Canada
you might find parts of these books interesting:

">from our Lives" by Members of the Baycrest Terrace Memoirs Group,
Toronto (Mosaic Press, 1979).

"Growing Up Jewish: Canadians Tell Their Own Stories", Ed. by Rosalie
Sharp, Irving Abella and Edwin Goodman (McLelland & Stewart, 1997).

There are, of course, many other publications that might help answer
some of your questions but these are in my personal library and I find
them quite interesting and useful.
