I am currently working on a documentary film about our names -- Where they come from. What they mean. And why they matter. I am interested in any and all interesting stories and examples of name changes that illustrate how our (European) names were transformed/simplified/re-interpreted/shortened or otherwise changed as part of the process of assimilation and Americanization experienced by our immigrant parents and grandparents.
I am also interested to hear of any films you have seen that shed light on this subject.
