Linda Workman Schulein asked:

My ggm Feygie Reva WACHMAN (nee KRAMER) emigrated >from Laizuva, Lithuania,
to Pella, Iowa, to join her sister there. I have checked census and city
directories but never found any trace of Jewish families in Pella c. 1900.
What would have been the likely port of entry for Iowa? They then moved to
Montreal.
It's possible that your ggm may have entered through Galveston TX. There
was an effort in the early 20th century to bypass NYC and send new
immigrants to the Middle West. The "Galveston Plan", as it was called,
existed for a few years until the onset of WWI, I believe.
