Ellen Meyer questioned the value of writing to schools for genealogical information because the schools were unwilling to violate their alums' privacy. I have no experience with that because I have always written for information about people now dead, and I state in the letter the date of the person's death and my relation to them. Even if the person is still alive, a school might send you a photocopy of a published yearbook or alumni reunion book. Federal law pro- hibits the disclosure of a person's academic record without the person's written consent. Bert Herbert Lazerow San Diego CA lazer@acusd.edu
