My grandfather, Benjamin (Bert) GRUBER emigated to the USA in 1903. Before he
died, he told me the story of his life, which included life in a small village
where his family was the only jewish family in the town (ironically his father
was the town saloon keeper!) My family debates whether or not he was from
Austria or Poland or Hungary (he spoke Polish) but he always said he came from
a village called "Ochiefsko Oliesko" (this is a phonetic spelling, he never
wrote it down).
If anyone has heard of this town or knows what the english translation of
those words is, I would much appreciate a response.
