Take a Look at Friday's Conference Schedule #galicia

Roni S. Liebowitz

Before you book that return plane ticket, or plan to hop on the train to
your summer home or to take off for the beach, please look at the
Conference's Friday morning schedule. We have some very exciting talks and
events planned that morning that you won't want to miss.

We have been blessed with over 260 presentations. Rather than keeping
everyone awake until midnight every night to attend them, we opted to
schedule a full morning of sessions on Friday, Aug. 18, >from 8:00 a.m. to
12:15 p.m.

If you're interested in Jews >from Lithuania, Ukraine, Hungary, Greece,
Transcarpathia, Scotland -- or New York...

If you'd like to gain exposure on the Internet, unearth deep dark secrets
about the criminals in your family's past, or find other "Jews in the
news"...

If you need advice on getting organized, publishing your research, or
conserving your photos and documents...

If you're searching for living relatives or trying to learn more about Shoah
victims or survivors...

If you hope to understand your "chochka" (or how a word comes to be spelled
that way)...

If you want to hear the story of a genealogist who became "suddenly
Jewish"...

...Friday has something for you. I suggest that you read about Friday's
sessions on the Conference web site

www.jgsny2006.org/conference_program.cfm

One of these programs requires some preparation. For "The Jewish Chochka and
Ephemera Road Show" (Session 408), Rafi Guber requests that registrants
bring family items, documents, photos, and ephemera to the conference. He
and a panel will help determine when and >from where the items originated and
any other secrets they may reveal about your family. Please remember to
bring along items for this exciting session.

Stay through the 18th and leave on a chai!

EARLY REGISTRATION MUST BE SUBMITTED BY MAY 15, 2006 !!!

Hi Celia/Erika, could you please look up my father Siegfried SCHWARZ, a
Doctor in Bohemia. In 1929 he would be either in Pfraumberg/Primda or
Schoenwald/Lesna.
Thank you both,

Dear Erika

You already know of my grandfather, Richard SALUS of Boletice (Politz an der
Elbe) and my great uncle Josef SALUS of Benesov nad Ploudnici (Bensen) but I
would be most interested to have confirmation that they were on the 1929
list and to know the addresses given. I would also be interested to know
the names of the other doctors in Politz - and other SALUS doctors, wherever
they were based.

With very best wishes and many thanks

Hello to all, I have photos posted on Viewmate in hopes someone will
recognize the women.

This picture circa 1942, was probably taken at Camp Wise. My mother Selma,
is on the very top.

This is a picture circa 1942, of the Cleveland, "Algaman" club mothers. My
grandmother, Esther SHIFFMAN-GLASS (original name BLAS) >from Belilovka
Ukraine, is the smiling woman at the very back.

If you recognize anyone in these two pictures, please contact me privately.

Thank you,

Hebrew translation request: tombstone of Rebbe Raphael of Bershad #general

SabrinaSWZ@...

Dear JewishGen friends,

Please help me with a Hebrew translation. On ViewMate # 7802
http://data.jewishgen.org/viewmate/ALL/viewmateview.asp?key=7802, I have posted
a photo of the inscription on the tombstone of my ancestor, a Chassidic rebbe
and tzaddik known as Raphael of Bershad (he lived in the era before surnames
were taken). Part of the epitaph appears to be a quotation >from a Talmudic or
rabbinic source:
I can see that it concerns "emeth" - truth - which was a guiding principle
in the rebbe's life, but I'd love to get the exact translation and identify
the source. I would also like to confirm the name of his father (is it Yakov
Yechiel?) and learn the date of his death, if it can be deciphered
(biographical sources are in conflict on the year, probably in the 1820's, but
his yahrzeit is 15 Tevet).

By the way, this rebbe is also the ancestor of another Genner, Ida Schwarcz,
according to family lore.

The photo was originally posted on the web by Michael Tobin, who
photographed the grave at Tarashcha, in the Ukraine.

Please reply by email directly to me, at Sabrina SWZ at aol.com (close up
spaces and use symbol for "at"). Thanks in advance for your assistance!

HELLER family from England #general

mfisaac@...

Hi everyone,

I've been searching for my English relatives for many years with no luck,
but I have finally managed to locate them on the UK 1901 census, so I'm just
wondering if there's anyone out there that recognizes this family:

Frieda/Fanny HUBERMAN(HABERMAN) (b. abt 1872, Sochaczew, Poland) m. Samuel
HELLER (b abt 1858 ?) (father Ephraim) abt 1893, London, England. They had
children:
1. Maudie, b 1886
2. Rose (1882-1944)
3. Hyman, b. 1891
4. Annie, b. 1890
Frieda appears to have married and divorced a man named Abraham NAFTANTHAL
before this.

If anyone recognizes *anything*, please let me know!

Thanks so much,
Farra Isaacson
