EDELSON--South Africa #general

Robert Edelson <redelson@...>

Several years ago, I received a phone call >from a woman >from South Africa
who was trying to track down information regarding her grandfather whose
last name was Edelson. She was in Cincinnati for a meeting, and made a habit
of calling all the Edelsons she could find whenever she was in the U.S. to
see if there was any connection.

I hadn't started digging into this at the time, so I didn't know that one of
my Great-Grandfather's brothers had migrated >from Kovno, Lithuania to South
Africa. I know very little about him.

If this set of circumstances sounds familiar to anyone, please let me know.

Thanks!

chafetz Chaim #general

Bruce and Gloria Mosenkis <mosenkis@...>

My maternal grandfather's maternal grandfather was a sofer (scibe) in
Gropdno named Yishayahu Rifkind (my grandfather was a first cousin of the
late Judge Simon Rifkind). Anyways, there is a strong family tradition
that my great-greatgrandfather was a cousin of the chafetz Chaim (Israel
Meir Kagan of Radin -died 1933). Any info on tthe family tree of the
chafetz chaim?

Looking for "Zuckerman the Printer" #general

Adele Susskind <adele@...>

At a recent exhibition at the Jewish Museum in New York City, friends
noticed that credit for the printed fabrics was given to "Zuckerman the
Printer". They are Zuckerman's who are printers, as were many, many
members of their family. They believe that Zuckerman's who were
printers moved >from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv many years ago, after which
they lost contact.
Would it be possible for an Israeli Jewish Genner to look in the Tel
Aviv phone book to see if indeed the firm still exists. We would then
be able to reunite this family. Very special people!.

Berlin rabbi #general

Theo or Madelyn Travis <travis@...>

I'm posting this query for a friend of mine, not on the internet, who is
going to do some genealogical research in Berlin. He is under the impression
that there is a British-born rabbi living there who may be able to help him.
Does anyone know of this rabbi and his address?

Thanks.

Dear Yiddishe Genners!!!

I will maybe go in NYC in November and I'd like to know where I can find

There are certainly great shops in Brookklyn but I will not have much time
to look for.

I would like to know too if there are lists of passengers available in

List of rabbis in Lithuania? #general

Theo or Madelyn Travis <travis@...>

I have been told that my great-grandfather had rabbinical training, although
he had another profession. Is there a list of rabbis I could investigate for
further information, or would any such list apply only to rabbis by
profession? He lived near Marijampole in the mid- to late-1800s.

Thanks.

Searching HOLZMAN of Boston #general

ddworski@...

Searching for descendants of Wolf & Etta HOLZMAN who migrated >from Grodno
region to Boston, Massachusetts circa 1890. Since this is a common
surname, following are some details to help narrow the field of
candidates. In 1900 the family lived at 42 Lynde Street. Parents were
Wolf (1844-1914) and Etta/Yenta (1847-1919). At least 3 of the couple's
8 children migrated to the United States: Jacob (born ca. 1874), Rebecca
(born ca. 1877) and George Augustus (born ca. 1879). The third child
may have been known by his middle name, Augustus. He was an attorney in
the Boston area. Widow Etta and other family members were clustered in
various residences (#110, 112, 116, 123) along Howland Street during WWI.
