Correct response #general

Dear monitor:
Why, when people respond, don't they write directly to the person asking for
information. Writing a personal answer to the Discussion Group is
uninteresting and boring. Plus it gives us a lot of mail to go through. I
probably respond to others with problems 10 to 15 times a week and I always
respond directly to the person searching for information. I don't feel that
it is important to let the entire email list know how "smart" I am. If
you're doing genealogy and can help someone, that's important, not how many
times you get something listed.

On 18 Oct 1999 I posted a query seeking the whereabouts of the

who is the nephew of the late Ruth [LYON] KENTER...I was able to put
Dan together with my ex-father-in-law...
Bernard ECHT who was Ruth's boyfriend over sixty years ago...
Mr. ECHT satisifed his long time curiosity regarding the fate of his

Bostaslav ? #general

Jerry Segal <j.segal@...>

My father's naturalization application is hard to read- states that he was
born in what looks like Boustaslav, Romania- or something like that. Does
this name sound familiar to anyone? Might be Botosani, but I can't tell for
sure. He left Romania in 1912-

Thanks

mountaineering school #hungary

Rakoff125

I have a photo of my cousin in which he writes he is going to mountaineering
school; his uniform is somewhat militaristic. The address is hard to read but
is something like Selychene. Does anyone know anything about this program or
place. Would it be considered part of the Austrian military? I can't tell
from the photo when it was taken but it is written in English sometime
between 1907 to 1920.
thanks for any help. Linda Rakoff, Newton, MA
