I attempted to sign on in the catagory that you gave us on 11/20/99 called
http://www.jewishgen.org/Litvak/Shtetls of Lithuania.htm and received word
that it didn't work. Do you have an alternative. Hope to hear >from you.

Alan K. Gidwitz

MODERATOR'S NOTE: We checked your problem with Litvak SIG President Davida Noyek Handler, who reports: "There was an incorrect link, and it's now fixed." So Alan -- and anyone else who had problems with the Shtetls of Lithuania URL -- please try it again; it should work just fine.

Searching: DZWONKOWSKI & MIKANOVSKY from Warsaw #general

Michael Trapunsky <mtrap@...>

Hi all,

I am searching for anyone by the name of DZWONKOWSKI or MIKANOVSKY. They
are 3 of the children and grandchildren of Alter Moshe and Menicha
DZWONKOWSKI (phonetic spelling) >from Warsaw, Poland.

1) Reuven DZWONKOWSKI. He had a son named Yudel and two daughters Menicha
and Chana. Yudel came to the U.S. in the early to mid 1900's (I think) and
was either a weight lifter, wrestler or boxer. He may have changed his last
name in the States.

2) Golda married Joshua MIKANOVSKY and had Marsha, Elka, and a son. I know
nothing else of them. They may have all died in Warsaw during the War.

3) Yakov DZWONKOWSKI. He had two sons, Harry and another one. They both
changed their last name to ADLER when they moved to England. Harry died in
London in 1983. I don't know anything about his brother except that he was
married and had children.

If anyone knows of these families, or can point me in the right direction,
I would love to hear >from you.

Thanks very much.

Sarah, Eliakum, Yitzchak and Chana Hinde (my great great grandmother - born
1845.)
2- Yakov KANTOR - Had Eliakum and Leib
3- Yonah KANTOR - Had Chana
4- Aharon KANTOR - Had Pesil
5- Moshe KANTOR
6- Hirsch KANTOR - Married Chana and had Fruma, Hertz, Meir and Tzippy

If anyone has any information regarding this family I would really love to

Searching: DZWONKOWSKI family - Poland #general

Michael Trapunsky <mtrap@...>

Hi all,

I'm searching for the DZWONKOWSKI Family >from Warsaw and Wolomin.

My great grandmother, Chaia Esther DZWONKOWSKI, was presumably born in
Warsaw or Wolomin around 1867. She married Yitzchak CYWINER. Yitzchak and
Chaia Esther died in 1910/1911 of an epidemic. After that their children
moved to Makow.

I'm told that Chaia Esther (DZWONKOWSKI) CYWINER was a business woman and
owned a lot of property in Wolomin, and after she passed away her children
sold off the property.

If anyone has any information regarding this DZWONKOWSKI family I would
really love to hear back >from you concerning this.

SANDEROVITCH from Zhashkov? #general

James D. Thrasher <jd913@...>

Does anyone have any information on the Sanderovitch family, arriving in
Philadelphia around 1920? They lived in a shtetl in the Ukraine called
Zhashkov (spelling?) Any help would be appreciated.

Re: New Haven, CT, Vital Records - how long to wait? #general

Gertrude Singer Ogushwitz <gsogush@...>

The best way to obtain vital records for Connecticut is to go to
< http://vitalrec.com > which is the United States Vital Statistics site.
Click on "c" for Connecticut, then follow instructions. Forms for
births, deaths, marriages can be downloaded >from the site, or you can
simply read instructions and send a letter. Sending queries to the towns
can be very slow; Town Clerks all over the state do their best, but
often are short-handed and genealogy is not their number one priority.

Bessarabia - vital records and names #general

Paul and Sara Grosbein <paulsara62@...>

Dear Genners,

-The surname that interests me is Schuster. Can anyone suggest what the
surname
would have been prior to coming to the U.S. in 1906?
Are there Jewish vital records available pre 1900 and through
1945?................

Seems to me this is exactly the sort of information which we many of us
would benefit from. Please, lets see the answers posted.
