There is some limited information about Aleksanderer Hasidim, centered in
Aleksandrow Lodzki, on this page:

"Rabbis, Cantors and Beit Din of Lodz"
http://www.jewishgen.org/Shtetlinks/Lodz/rabbi.htm

The Aleksanderer rebbe's surname DANZIGER. This Hasidic sect was influential in
the nearby city of Lodz. Most of this information was obtained >from the Simon
Wiesenthal Museum of Tolerance web site.

Hi All,

I recently learned that my grandfather's family were Alexander Chassidim
and not Ostrovtzer (?) Chassidim like I originally thought.

My grandfather's brother used to go to the Alexander shul in Makow, Poland
and people used to stand around to hear him sing.

I was wondering if anyone has heard of the Alexander branch of Chassidim
and if there is a genealogical table about the Alexander Rebbe. I was also
told that we were somehow related to the Rebbe through my great
grandmother, Chaia Esther CYWINER (nee DZWONKOWSKI).

Thanks very much for your help,

My thanks to Shelley Pollero for posting the message informing all of you

Surname EICHENBAUM/ EJCHENBAN/ EJCHENHOLC from Opoczno #general

debjkay <debjkay@...>

I have recently learned that an ancestor, born about 1815, in Opoczno had
the surname EICHENBAUM or EICHENHOLC (maybe with "j" or "y" for the "i").

Since this was at the time surnames were made mandatory in Poland, and this
is a German name, would to be a valid assumption to make that the family was
from Germany and immigrated near that time?

ROTHBEIN family in Warta #lodz #poland

Seflaum@...

Dear Fellow Researchers,

I would like to add my sincere thanks to Madeleine Okladek for her hard work
as JRI-Poland Shtetl CO-OP Leader for Warta.

I am researching the surnames ROTBAJN / ROTBEIN / ROTHBEIN and KOZLOWSKI in
Warta, which shows up in the new data now online in the JRI-Poland database.
If you find any connection to these families, I would love to know about it.
My gggrandfather was Rabbi Yehuda Leibusz Rothbein, Av Beit Din of Warta >from
1847 to the 1850s. I know these dates now thanks to Madeleine. Interestingly,
she found that my ancestor officiated at the weddings of her ancestors!

After Warta, Rabbi Yehuda Leibusz was Av Beit Din of Gora Kalwaria and
Grojec. He was a Chassid of Gur, and was born in Warsaw (died in Warsaw in
1863).

Here are the records pertaining to my family and some information about who
they were:

Town: Warta 1823-55,58
Gubernia: Kalisz / Province: Poznan

Surname Givenname Year Type Akt Remarks Film

ROTHBEIN Mojsze 1848 D 50 753087 --2 yr-old son of Rabbi Yehuda Leibusz

ROTHBEIN Josek 1849 B 13 753087 -- Rabbi Yehuda Leibusz' father Rabbi Yosef
Zev "Hagadol" died in Warsaw in 1848 -- this is his namesake:

Rabbi Yehuda Leibusz' daughter's marriage; they were the grandparents of the
last rabbi of Radom, who died in the Holocaust:
ROTHBEIN Perla 1849 M 2 753087
KIESTENBERG Chilem 1849 M 2 753087 - born in Przytyk (Rabbi)

Rabbi Yehuda Leibusz' son's marriage record; they are my great-grandparents:
ROTHBEIN Icek 1850 M 4 753087
KOZLOWZKA Ruchla 1850 M 4 753087
[Rabbi Icek and Ruchla starting showing up in Piotrkow Trybunalski in the
1860s. >from there, a few of Rabbi Icek's children ended up in Lodz by 1905; I
know very little about the KOZLOWSKI family]

ROTHBEIN Hana 1851 B 47 753088 -- Daughter of Icek and Ruchla; she married
a KLINGER in Piotrkow -Trybunalski and died at age 27
