NY Death Certificate #general

Suzecrazy@...

Can you please help me out? I'm in the process of packing and moving but I
just cant seem to put my Genealogy stuff in the box yet.
I have to find the death certificate numbers for GGGrandparents and others
in a family plot in NY. One death is listed as long ago as 1897 and the
most recent is 1958. I know theres a link to this someplace but I didn't
bookmark it. If I could get the certificate numbers I think I could
request the copies of the certificates themselves.
Does anyone have that link?
Thanks again,
Susie Stock

MODERATOR NOTE: The InfoFile at

Perhaps one of them can be of help.

What to put on headstone #general

Suzecrazy@...

My father passed away this past July 13th. My mother and I have to decise
what to put on his headstone. I thought I'd ask some of you because I've
seen some profound writing here in the past. I'd like something similar to
" His memory is a blessing" But a bit warmer. The regular stuff like
"Beloved Husband,Father and Grandfather" is boring. Any suggestions?

Morristown JGS? #general

BABYCAT3 <babycat3@...>

Does anyone out there have info on when, where and if there is a JGS in the
Morris County area of New Jersey. I attended a meeting tonight in Passaic
County and it is a long haul for me. I am hoping to find something a bit
closer. For anyone closer to Wayne, NJ, the group there is worth a visit, they
are very nice and helpfull people. It's too far for me on a regular basis.
Thanks

Schiller family in Berdichev #ukraine

P. Gowans <p2g@...>

I cannot tell whether Berdichev is within this group's area of interest so I
apologise if this request is inappropriate. I have also sent it to the
Berdichev list so apologies again if you get it twice.

I am searching for Meyer (Myer) SCHILLER (Shiller) family. He is my great
grandfather, born around 1863-1865, probably in the Berdichev area. My
grandfather Louis Schiller was born in Berdichev in 1888. The family
emigrated to the US around 1888-1891. Meyer married Anna (unknown last name)
born Jan. 1870 around 1883-1885. Meyer appears as head of household on the
1900 and 1910 Censuses in Chicago, however the dates of birth, immigration,
and ages of children are all slightly different in each census.

I am new at this, but have found that most Schillers I find on the internet
come >from Germany and are not identifiably Jewish. Another group of
Schillers comes >from Poland and does seem to be Jewish. Can anyone tell me
about the Schiller surname with respect to Jews in Berdichev/Ukraine?

Thank you,

Paula Schiller Gowans

Re: Enschede Netherlands #general

Arjeh van der Sluis <vandersluiscdn@...>

Good day.

In answer to your question.

Yes, there were Jewish refugees >from German in Holland. They were in
Enschede, Oldenzaal, Borne etc. In general though, these refugees went to
Amsterdam and Rotterdam and then to the other destinations overseas.
Enschede, Borne, Oldenzaal all border Germany (10Km >from the Border).
There are other cities and towns as well.

They went to Holland because Holland was neutral in WWI and it was widely
believed that Holland would remain so in any other future conflicts.
Unfortunately this was not to be so as Hitler regarded Dutchmen as members
of the Germanic race (Common Language Elements), and invaded anyway. Any
German or other Jews (Anne Frank) seeking refuge in Holland suffered the
same fate as the Dutch Jews. Outside Polland, the Highest number of Jews
Murdered in the War was in Holland.

Before the out break of the war Some of individuals went back to Germany
never to be heard of again. My Grand Father was involved in the movement
of these people >from German to Holland. This movemnet ofcourse included
the movement of assets, as these were not allowed out of Germany and
therefor had to be smuggled.

If you have any more questions let me know. I will try to answer them or I
will refer you to those who do.

Since there are no Mormon files for Romania, I'd like to know if
there are Jewish records >from prior to 1900 that have survived,
and if so, has anyone had success in obtaining them without hiring
a researcher? I'm particularly interested in what's available
from Iasi.

I recently received a letter >from the archivist in Warsaw. This was in

I would of course like this letter (one page) translated, and would
appreciate the assistance of anyone who can do this for me.
