Please see how these names were accumulated. It would be far too bourgeois to
place all the names on a list. After all, the workman's circle pays homage to
socialism and the use of a name list violates the ethics of the
brotherhood. They didn't want us to Xerox a name list and make life simple. So
they had the brotherhood buy space in the program to finance the cost of the
publication and maybe to have a few dollars left over to make payments to
ailing members.

Piotrkow Trybunalski Records for 1854-1858 added to JRI-Poland Database! #poland

Marla Waltman Daschko <waltman@...>

Dear JRI-Poland Researchers,

The Piotrkow Trybunalski Shtetl CO-OP is pleased to announce that
indices for another LDS microfilm (#715,807) have been added to the
Jewish Records Indexing Database and are now available for viewing. The
indices for the birth, marriage, and death records (963 individual
names) for the years 1854 to 1858 are now searchable online.

New records contain births for 1854-1858, marriages for 1854-1855 and
deaths for
1854-1855. This microfilm does not contain marriage or death records for

1856-1858, most of which are available on other microfilms that are not
yet ready for posting on-line.

These new records have been added to years already available on-line for
a
total of 12,540 individual records. Records for Piotrkow Trybunalski
are now available for the following years:

Births: 1847-1858, 1868-1876, 1878-1883
Marriages: 1847-1848, 1850-1851, 1853-1855, 1868-1881, 1883
Deaths: 1847-1855, 1868-1876, 1878-1883

You can find the Piotrkow Trybunalski records by searching at
http://www.jewishgen.org/JRI-PL/jriplweb.htm

Most of the microfilm was transliterated by Marla Cohen (Riverwoods,
Illinois,
USA). Leah Jordan Bisel (West Bloomfield, Michigan, USA) took on the
challenge of creating a listing for 1858 by extracting information
directly >from the microfilm records as an index didn't exist. Big
thanks to Leah and Marla for their excellent work! Others doing amazing
work on Piotrkow Trybunalski records include: Stephen Rosenberg (Or
Yehuda, Israel) who is our
cyrillic records expert and new team member Vicki Maher (Great Neck, New
York, USA.).

Thanks are also in order to Hadassah Lipsius, Michael Tobias, Stanley
Diamond, and the JRI-Poland quality control team for their support and
patience.

Please contact me for information about Piotrkow Trybunalski and ways in
which you can help support this project. Thanks to those of you who
have made financial contributions to support this effort. We would also
welcome new members and encourage you to join with us. It is a mitzvah
as well as being a great experience. The work of
all the JRI-Poland Shtetl CO-OPs will benefit all who are researching
their Jewish ancestry. Get involved! We were all 'greeners' when we
started!

Name Masche #general

Susan&David

From: <Aejordan@aol.com>
I was searching the new listings online >from the Hamburg passenger lists
and I came across the name Masche JORDAN aged 19 >from Talsen in Russland.
This person left Hamburg in October 1891 --it could be more of my family.

Anyone have any ideas about this name?
I had an uncle whose hebrew name was Moshe. He was known as Mashe (or
Masche), Pronounced with a long "a" as in Pace.
I believe that the name Masche, pronounced with a short "a" as in
Part, would be feminine..

Re: Masche - what type of name? #general

Lilli Sprintz <spri0037@...>

Allen Jordan asked what kind of name is Masche?

So lovely to see that name in print.

My grandmother, >from Poland, >from a town in Poland called Ciechanow in
what was still part of Russia at turn of 19th to 20th century, was
named "Mascha." I didn't know this until I got an index card and later
the exact passenger list >from the ship "The Rhein," which sailed from
Bremen, Germany in 1913. In the US, she was known as "Mollie."

Later, when I got to look at the town records posted in JRI - Poland, I
found out that the Polish spelling (I assume Polish) was "Masza".

I assume, but could be wrong (I am founding out there are no such things as
consistencies in genealogical work), that your relative was female.

Other takers on this?

Lilli
