Hi,

This may be of some interest to all those that are having problems with
Maps.
This is for those of us who have ancestors in Europe and cannot find which
side of the border (that is
which country) we are researching. The free download of the Napoleonic
years is
interesting.

Re: The name COHEN #general

Somebody replied to this question by saying "they are the same". I think
this is a bit unfair because a person asking that question deserves a full
answer.
In Russian there is no "h" sound or letter. the closest to it is "g"
Remeber that COHEN in Yiddish comes out like KAYEN in pronunciation. Now if
you cannot say that with a H but with a G then it becomes Kagan.
Simple when you know how hey?

I would like to know if it possible about your opinion if these surname
could be of jewish origin.
the surnames are:
I)Rebecchi(italian variant)
I think that it derive to Rebech/Rebeck/Rybicki/Rebecca.I found some
sthetel that they have same names like:
Rabeki (bielarus)
rebbeke (germania)
rebeci (croazia)

2)Ravecca (italian variant)
The same names are Rawecki,rawicki,ravech,rawack,ravkai.
I found same sthetel too:
ravika (grecia)
rawica-rewica (poland)
revaca (moldavia)
ravichi (russia)
ecc,ecc
There is a word in hebrew, that is in english old maid, means ravaka... in
italians zitella that is similar at the surname.

What do you think????
Thank you very much

Dalia Rossi.

Jane Vogel-Kohai & Ofer Kohai <vogelko@...>

For those of you who can read Hebrew and whose browsers will support it,
you can look up telephone numbers in Israel at this URL:
www.144.bezek.com
You do not need a Hebrew keyboard because there is a virtual Hebrew
keyboard on the site. If someone else out there knows it and can edify us,
I believe there is a way of adding Hebrew viewing capabilities to your
browser but offhand I don't know it.

Dear Friends,

Have any Genners used Samuel Rothenberg's 1984 book, "List o zagladzie
Zydow w Drohobyczu", which translates to, "List of the Jews (who were)
victims of the Holocaust in Drohobycz"?

So far, this book has been located in the British Library (in London?)
and in the Toronto University library.

Thanks in advance for anticipated help.
