TIMENDORFER / LILIENFELDT #general

Wendy Roth

I am helping a friend search for her paternal family, who originated from
Berlin by the name of TIMENDORFER. Her father was Klaus and his parents were
Kurt and Martha ( nee Lilienfeld ). She is under the impression that
Bertholdt Timendorfer, who was one of the pioneers of Bnai Brith, could have
been her ggrandfather. There is much information and a statue of this
Bertholdt Timendorfer at the the Leo Beeck Institute in New York. The
information is in German and the institute say that they cannot translate or
sort out this information for her.
Any information on the families Timendorfer and Lilienfeld would be
appreciated.

Please reply to me privately
Thanks

Dear all.

While researching for my book about the Chaikins', I found Menachem Zalman
WOPLPOVSKY / VALPOWSKI?
He was an editor in the publication house of the "United Kibuutz" in Tel
Aviv.
His mother: Sarah, daughter of Moshe Chaikin.
His father: Yehoshua (Joshua) Falck.
Place of birth: Surazh (there is one near Vitebsk, and one in the Crimea).
Date of birth: 29 of AV 1893.

He had a son by the name Dov.

Any clue?

Regards >from Jerusalem. Udi Cain.

LANDSBERGER #general

glosonc@...

My maternal grandfather Adolf Landsberger died in 1931 in Satoralyaujhely,
Hungary. His second wife was my grandmother Katalin. His first wife's maiden
name was Schwartz. Not much is known about him since his oldest child was
11 years old at the time of his death. What is known is that he came to
Hungary as a young man >from either Pinsk or Pinsk area. In Hungary he
became a railroad official. It is also thought that he had a brother who
lived in Krakow who owned a shoe store. Also possible a sister who came to
the US and
lived in NY area. Please respond if any of this sounds familiar.

Searching SHENKIN #general

Rlberliner@...

Below is the posting >from Kalman Berger. While scrolling his search names, I
found the name Nathan SHENKIN. SHENKIN is among the list of my search names,
registered with Jewishgen. Since Ancestry.com is free until Dec. 21, I
searched there for SHENKIN and found that Richard had an entry there too. I
called my cousin in Florida whose mother was Sadie SHENKIN and found that
Nathan was indeed his uncle, his mother's brother. I have written directly
to Richard.

If anyone by the name of AGINS and/or AGINSKY has a relationship to SHENKIN
and/or LEAF, I would greatly appreciate your contacting me.

My suggestion to everyone is to carefully read the search names in the
postings, and above all, don't give up your search. You just never know when
something will come up. SHENKIN has been on my search list for about 18
months.

Good luck to all of us!

Andre CITROEN #general

Mark Halpern <Willie46@...>

I have been told by a distant relative that our CITRON ancestors >from the
Bialystok and Grodek region of Eastern Poland were related in some way to
the famous French Automotive Industrialist, Andre CITROEN.

I have scoured the Internet and found that Andre CITROEN was born in
Amsterdam in 1878 and died in Paris in 1935. Does anybody have any further
information about Andre CITROEN's family history or know how I can contact
any of his descendants?

Appreciate any information you can provide.

Rothaus, Nieder Oesterreich #general

Contrary to my previous message, it appears that my great-grandfather
was born in 1859 in a place then called Rothhaus, Nieder Oesterreich
(Lower Austria). I suspect it was somewhere close to the Bohemian
border. Would anyone know what the name of this town is today?

Thanks for your help.

PETRA name #general

My niece, born in Leytonstone, London, about 1960, the third child of
the family, was named Petra. I suppose her parents chose it because they
liked the name. I don't know if they named her after the Jordanian city.

Hello to all

One of my ancestors was called PETRA ANDUJAR .My family comes from
Spain, however this name doesn't seem spanish.Do you have any ideas?

Thanks in Advance
Violette Novo Germanaud France
Dear Violette et al.

Although Petra is a Christian female name which is quiet common amongst
women >from middle and east Europe, and which I suppose is derived from
the name Peter who was one of the messengers in the beginning of
Christianity. It is also the name of the ancient Nabbatian town, in Wady
Musa, which is located in Jordan kingdom. But, PETER is also a Hebrew word
which means: First born.

Re: Turn of Century Return to Russia #general

Hilary Henkin <hilary@...>

I have a great-uncle who is in the passenger list index three times - maybe
four. He made a lot of visits home, both before and after he became a US
citizen. And I have a great-aunt listed on two manifests - she went home
once, long before she became a citizen. Given the immensity of such a trip,
I"m now trying to figure out the reasons for the trips - weddings, deaths,
etc. which might provide more research clues.

Every time they arrived in the US, a traveler should've been on a passenger
list, regardless of which class he or she traveled....
