Help in Lod Israel, Please. #general

Steinhe@...

My wife and I have been trying to locate family survivors. Through the
American Red Cross, we have located the former Suzy ESKENAZI in Lod.
She has released her address, but the ARC has neglected to provide her
married name to us. Suzy, according to the information we have been sent,
lives at Gilboea Str, Lod. She has one son. I would like to know
her last name so that we may correspond and share family information. An
email address would also be appreciated.

Please correspond directly to me: SteinHE@...

Thank you,

Harry Stein

We have been contacted by a representative of the Ratno, Urkraine
landsmanschaft in Israel who is interested in getting the yizkor book
translated and put online on the JewishGen Yizkor Book Project site.
The book is:
Ratno, Ukraine: Ratne; sipura shel kehila yehudit she-hushmeda
(Ratne; the story of a Jewish community that was destroyed), Editor:
Nahman Tamir, Tel Aviv, Ratno Society in Israel, 1983 (H, 331 pages).

Anyone who is interested in translating this book or setting up a
translation project, please contact me. The landsmanschaft has no
one to do the translation and, of course, will give JewishGen
permission to put the translation on our web site. I hope that
someone with roots in this town will volunteer to coordinate the
project. Our procedures can be found at

What's ViewMate? #general

Alan Rackow <rackow@...>

I've been away for a while and returned recently to the Group. Several
messages refer to ViewMate. What is it and where on the Web?

MODERATOR NOTE: ViewMate is a new service for the posting of Jewish
genealogy related graphics (photos, text images, etc). Details and
instructions are found at http://www.jewishgen.org/ViewMate/

Child's Rstaurant #general

Alan Rackow <rackow@...>

Not really genealogical, but Child's restaurant in Winnipeg was the hangout
for the Jewish university students in the late 40s and possibly beyond.
Where else could you get toast and coffee with several refills for 10
cents?

http://www.jgsgb.ort.org/bury02mz.htm burials M-Z [December 2000]
are the sites of the Enfield Cemetery burial listings."

This is true. However, these are just listings of names. If you wish to
receive data about the deceased, you have to provide dates of death for
Adath Yisroel Burial Society to find the burial ledgers.

Seeking information on Mary Rosenberg (father Zev) who was born September
1884 in Buhusi or Piatra Neamt, Romania. She emigrated to Canada prior to
1907, where she married Harry Shuster in 1907 in Montreal. Can anyone
tell me about these villages -- any known Yizkor books, etc.

Thank you.

Lipman is a very old Ashkenazic given name dating back at least to the 14th
century. It is a variant of Liebman and means "beloved/dear man." Source:
