Re: Female name Dobrisch #general

Dobra means good in Slavic languages. This may be a Slavic translation
of Gitl.

We have always thought that Dobrisch was a masculine name from
Dov. But now we found a female who's name is Dobrisch. The only
name we can think of as it's origin, is Devora. (This woman is
from the Ukrain.) Can anyone confirm or refute this?

VM 196-extract Russian handwritten D certtificate. #general

Kirsten Gradel <kmgradel@...>

I just uploaded to ViewMate a D certificate, Russian handwriting, >from
Warshawa 1869. Would you take a look and give me the *Extracts* of
relevant facts:

Date of death, age of deceased, *Name of Husband* (I actually think I can
read that, but it could be wishfull thinking on my part), her town of
birth or residence (I also think I can read name of a town, to the right
2 lines below the one with her name, but again, wishful thinking?). Is
there any mention of parents, children, relationship to witnesses, cause
of death? Was she visiting in Warshawa?

The file can be found as VM 196 in the "To view" section at

In regard to anything that happens in Miami/Dade County, you can go
yourself to the web site of the Miami Herald and search their Archives.
For the last fourteen days there was no mention of a Bess Braun.

The web site is: http://www.miamiherald.com

Most newspapers now have web sites with search capbabilities, so you can
look almost anywhere in the world for information.

Searching lost relatives from Radzyn, Poland #general

Ada Holtzman <ada01@...>

Shalom,

This message is sent on behalf of a friend, Efraim Zamir
(surname changed >from Spiwak to zamir in Israel), who doesn't
have an internet access.

His father left Poland in the early 30s. The only remnant
of the family left behind is an old crumbling photograph of
Efraim's paternal grandmother whose maiden name was KAUFMAN.
She married Efraim Israel Spiwak, who is our Efraim's grandfather.
No other details about the family >from the old country are known.
Deep inside him, Ephraim believes there might still be relatives
of this family.

Thank your attention and great help and happy khanuka to all,

RACHLIN/BORISOV #belarus

ADAVIS <ADAVIS@...>

Thanks to those who offered assistance.

Not sure if the Risa Davidovna Rachlina listed in the Borisov cemetary is
related- my ggf-'s father's name was David, though, so its possible it Risa
were a spinster. My great-grandmother was born ca 1885. If her husband
Issac Rachlin were of a similar age, Risa, born in '94 could have been a kid
sister... Hard to tell...

Apology If I have not responded #general

Phoebe Luise Nix <phoenixxph@...>

Happy Holiday Season To All.

If anyone has been waiting to receive a response >from me, I apologize for
not getting back to them.

My daughter was trying to install a game and my computer crashed just as I
was trying to backup my files. I have lost all the mail I was waiting to
answer.

I will never ever put off backing up files again. The one good thing about
having to rebuild everything is I figured out how to use View Mate.
