I would beg to differ with that person since I used only the last name
each time along with the British Isles. That is all I ever use since I
have found that things come up on that that will not come up when you do a
more detailed search. The times this has happened I was up really late,
but got knocked off the net either by noise on the line or by missing the
prompt to keep me on. I went back on and redid the search exactly the
same way and the same color changes were there >from my previous look at
the records shortly before, but a couple of the people were now missing
that I knew had been there. I am talking just an hour or so before and
late at nite.

Since this has happened to me about three times, I would say that the
problem is recurring, but have no idea what it is other than the search
engine missing some.

I have even done a detailed search for something I know is there, and it
will not come up until you do a more general search with less criteria.

given name translation #ukraine

Leon Fishman <lfishman@...>

From: NOSHOWCLC@aol.com
Perhaps this is an americanized version of the bibilical Hebrew name
"Rivkah," one of the four Matriarchs in Judaism, the wife of Isaac
("Yitzchak"), one of the three Patriarchs. It is also a popular name in
Yiddish as well as Hebrew.

I unfortunately only have on name in this family line - Rebecca
BOGOMOLNY. Rebecca never left the Ukraine, except to visit her sons in
the United States. They referred to her as Rebecca, but would this be
an Americanized version of her name?

"religious" would be the closest translation. A word-for-word translation
is "one who prays a lot"

The name is clearly Slavic, meaning 'praying to God', or perhaps
'religious' or 'believiing'.

Michelle,

I have noted this happening since the first time I used the site. In
doing a surname or one name search sometimes the same people would not
show up a second time, or more people would show. Since we have some
problem with noise on the phone lines, I have a problem with getting
dumped once in a while, and that happened at that time, and when I went
back thru the same search, I noticed the change right away. I always do a
search several times in a week before figuring I have hopefully found or
not found what I wanted.

I am sure this does not help but Rivka = Rebbeca
Rivkin= son of Rebecca

one cousin who came over named Ekka became Rebecca

these Americanizations can be hell to unravel it was not unusual to just
use a American name that just had the same first letter - rather than the
same meaning or a transliteration of spelling.

For what it's worth, I checked the RootsWeb birth index for ME! I was born
in Los Angeles, I know the date, my mother's maiden name, etc., have my
birth certificate and I am not listed. So maybe you shouldn't absolutely
rely on the index for proof of one's existence :-)

sure of first names, could be an Arthur. Either Russian Jews or Polish
Jews.
