Descendants of Shulem (Solomon) Pactor of Siemiatycze #unitedkingdom

tina levine

I need assistance with the following two matters.

I am searching for descendants
(grandchildren/great-grandchildren) of Shulem
(Solomon) Pactor(1867-1944) of Siemiatycze who
immigrated to London c. 1910/11.

He was the son of Yisroel and the brother of David
(immigrated to NYC), Rochel/Rose (immigrated to NYC)
and Devorah (immigrated to London.)

I am the great-granddaugthter of Shulem's brother
David.

Shulem and his wife Sura Rifka had 6 children:

1.Masha Pactor Friend. Her children were Hilda, Renee
and Sidney.

2.Katie Pactor Somen (husband Izzie). Their children
wer Sylvia, Philip and Michael.

3.Millie Pactor Bush. Don't know if they had
children.

4.Golda Pactor, died at age 12 of a brain tumor.

5.Morris Pactor (wife Lena). Their children were
Ronald and Stewart.

6. Sophie Pactor Lieberman. Their children were
Rudolph and Mitch. (I have made contact with Mitch.)

How do I start to search for the gravesite of Shulem
Pactor, my great-great uncle? He's buried somewhere
in London.

Any information concerning the above two matters will
be greatly appreciated. Please reply privately.

What archives would have records on my FAIKES/FAJKES ancestors #general

sacredsisters3@aol.com <sacredsisters3@...>

Hello All

I would love to find out more on my FAIKES/FAJKES ancestors. I have
searched the databases on jewishgen and Poland website, but have come
up with nothing. My grandfather came >from a big family. I believe most
of them were born and most likely living in Brest Litov. I want to know
what archive would have records for that town/village of Poland/Russia.
My grandfather was born in 1913, but his actual birthday/month is a
mystery.

I would also like to find out what happened to his father. He died
sometime after my grandfather was born. My grandfather's mother came to
America in 1928-29 and she was widowed.

If, someone out there can point me in the right direction of what
archives I could contact and be able to have them do research for me I
would appreciate it.

Dowfry RIBIKESSCHA - Name? on Passenger Manifest #general

Jackie Wasserstein

I just received my step-mom's dad's Naturalization papers. His name is
Meilich (Max) Goldwasser.

I also received his Certificate of Arrival. On the Certificate of Arrival
his name is given as Dowfry RIBIKESSCHA. This doesn't sound like a name to me.

I would appreciate any ideas on what Dowfry Ribikesscha could be. Sounds
like some kind of Yiddish words.

people would not use them.

==Even this need is quite rare, and of little consequence to genealogists.
It is a useful guide for those unfamiliar with Hebrew and with Yiddish, to
assume that a word containing a pair of vavs is much more likely to be Yiddish
than Hebrew and to start off by looking it up in the correct dictionary.

Re: Looking for child of Yitzak ILMAN #general

Martin Cahn <martin@...>

Your idea that the child survived is a possibility although it must still be
considered unlikely. We have a friend who survived through just such a
situation. She was given away to a convent when she was 6 months old and a
few days later her parents went to Belzec carrying a doll to fool the
Germans.
She, like would be the case with your possible survivor, did not remember
anything and only knew her identity because a note had been tied around her
neck giving the information - child of Dr. G......... She has been unable to
find her birth certificate - birth certificates >from wartime are very
difficult to come by and many were destroyed. If your child had no
information "around her neck", they may well simply not know their own
identity. Our friend found out that she was Jewish when her adoptive mother
told her on her deathbed; then she waited for many years until suddenly her
aunt appeared on television in Poland appealing for the child of Dr.
G........ to come forward, and >from that day onwards she has managed to
trace much of her own family in the US and Israel.

So this might be a way forward - to put forward a plea on local television
or radio in Belarus. It is a big human interest story - but the problem is
that you may be searching for a child who was never actually saved, or who
if she was saved, never knew her real identity. We have another child of the
holocaust in our town who came >from L'viv - she was rescued when the last
wagon of a deportation train full of children going to Auschwitz was
detached and the 100 children in it were whisked away and hidden in adoptive
families found by Polish railwaymen. It is a wonderful story, *but* she still
has no idea who she is.

Our friend's family at least knew the family story of her being saved and
knew that she was likely to have survived.

Good Luck!
