Need help with Polish translation (ViewMate) #general

Robert Mandelbaum

In response to a request for records that I sent to the Polish archives, I
received a letter in Polish which I, unfortunately, cannot read. I've
posted the letter to the JewishGen ViewMate web site at
<http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/toview.html>. The particular file
number of my letter is VM817, which can be accessed directly by going to
<http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/ALL/source/vm817.html>. Would anyone be
willing and able to translate this for me? Any help would be greatly
appreciated. Please e-mail any responses directly to me at
rmandelbau@aol.com.

Thank you very much,
Robert Mandelbaum

Special TV Program on Genealogy #general

Joan Parker <housemom@...>

Hello Genners,

Next Sunday, August 12th, at 9AM Eastern Time on CBS a program called CBS
News Sunday Morning is presenting a program on Genealogy. The show itself
is 90 minutes so if you are going to record it set your VCR for the full 90
minutes. I do not know if the whole show will be devoted to the subject or
just a segment.

Money Orders #general

Joan Parker <housemom@...>

Dear Genners:

There have been a few enquiries about how to send payment overseas. PO
Money Orders were suggested as in inexpensive way, but please be aware,
that when you buy a money order it must be an International or a Global
Money Order. Regular US Money Orders are not cashable in foreign countries
and that includes Canada.

As part of a community research project I am looking for information on David GROSS who was the
president of the Gyor Orthodox Community pre-WWII. He and his wife and possibly all of his children
perished in the Holocaust.

All I know about David GROSS is that he was born in Gyor on 19 March 1884. His mother's maiden name
was Berta LICHTER. He married Gizella MAYER >from Nagymarton.

If any of these names are familiar please contact me.

Dear Genners:

I have placed 2 pictures on VM. VM813 is a picture of my Paternal
grandparents Florence (Marks) KOVIN and David KOVIN on their honeymoon in
1917. Does anyone recognize the location?

VM814 is a picture of my grandmother's sweet sixteen taken about 1913. I
have identified some of the people, but need help in identifying others.
Can you help?

Thanks in advance,

Seeking ZUCKERMAN, Newark, NJ #general

Jeanne <Groupie@...>

Trying for a long shot because have recently found what is probably my
step-father's family in the EIDB. However, although the names and dates
appear to be correct, I'm uncertain about 2 of the names and the surname
and can't be certain I have the correct manifest. According to this data,
the GINSBURSKI family are traveling to meet their cousin:

Israel ZUCKERMAN
578 Orange St.
Newark, NJ

I'd like to talk to anyone about their ZUCKERMAN connection >from Newark
on/about March 26, 1906.

Thank you,
Jeanne Gold

Re: Rishon Lezion zipcode #general

Curiousyl@...

Personally, I haven't had a problem with mail to Israel since I was
told - many years ago - letters to Israel should include the ZIP code
written after the city and before the country - NOT at the end of the
address, as in the USA.
Try writing the address in this way.

Good luck.

Umbrella Makers #general

kasakaplan@...

I have a group of family members - TEITELBAUM, TEICHHOLZ, SCHARF and
AGATSTEIN who were all in the umbrella business. They all came >from the
Tarnapol, Galicia area. On most of the immigration records, they were going
to 34 Walker St. in NYC to Joseph TEITELBAUM. They arrived >from 1890's to
early 1900's.

Every document that lists an occupation on it notes that the person was in
the umbrella business.

My grandmother was Sabina Teitelbaum who married Adolph Agatstein. Birth
records of JRI-Poland show many sets of parents with two of the three
names - Teitelbaum, Scharf and Teichholz. I know that we are all related
but I don't know how. Many years ago I met many of them, but lost contact
over the years.

Were there any umbrella maker organizations at that time in NYC, and are
there any still in existence? If so, how can I contact them or where can I
find any records?

If you have any connection to any of these names, or know anything about
people in the umbrella business, please contact me.

TIA

My grandparents and I experienced the same problem 20 years ago. Shame to
hear it's not yet improved!
