Kropivna, Pomaryany; records & other information #galicia

lwwhitemd@...

I am researching relatives who came >from Kropivna in the district of Zolocev.
There are several towns by that name; the one that my relatives came >from is
very near Pomoryany, midway between Lvov and Ternopol (coordinates 4941 2448)
My relatives left around 1900 and settled in Toronto. I am interested in any
information re the location of vital records for any part of the 19th
century, as well as suggestions re possible ports of entry.

1930 US Census Part 7 #general

Joel Weintraub <JWeintraub@...>

Good News. Today I discovered that on the National Archives
M1931 film series, "Cross Index to Selected City Streets and
Enumeration Districts, 1930 Census," should appear Manhattan
and Bronx. Last September at a NARA Laguna Niguel Workshop
a sheet was handed out that listed all the M1931 cities; the above
2 boroughs of New York City were not on the list. I learned that that
information sheet was based on material received early last year.
On the new M1930 microfilm series, showing ed map outlines, I
found a list of the cities that are said to appear on M1931. That's
when I saw the 2 NY boroughs appearing on M1931. So, all 5
boroughs of New York City should be on M1931 (not available yet
at our NARA branch). Also on M1931 are "most populated places
in North Carolina." I wish I had this information earlier, as I have
transcribed street names within Manhattan and the Bronx census
districts as ITWIT files (see previous postings). Future workshops
from NARA Laguna Niguel on the upcoming 1930 census should
include this new information.

attn owners of the 1910 NY census CD-ROM #warsaw #poland

carol skydell <cwskydell@...>

Based on the questions we are seeing about how to find the Enumeration
District to access the census page, you don't need it if you are using the
1910 NY state or NYcity census CD-ROM purchased in the JewishGenMall.

The Heritage Quest CD gives you the exact NARA film to look at, including
the page and part. That assumes that you are close to either NARA
in Washington D.C. or one of the Regional Archive branches, but of course
that is not always the case.<g>

Avotaynu has come to the rescue. To determine which film to order >from any
one of the thousands of Family History Centers around the world, go
to http://www.avotaynu.com/1910censusny.htm to see how to convert the NARA
REEL to the FHL film number.

For example: My own SKIDELSKY search reported reel 1039 (in the T624
series of NARA films) Part 1 Page 183 A for Morris Skidelskiy

I have my choice of going to a nearby Regional Archive here in southern
California and looking at reel #1039 and finding the correct page and part,
or ordering the film >from a local FHC.

Using the Avotaynu site noted above all I do is look up reel #1039 and find
that I need to order film # 1375052

Hope this helps everybody make effective use of the CD.

P.S. the page #s are **stamped** on the heading of the census page....not
handwritten in the upper right hand corner, those are NOT page numbers no
matter what the volunteer at the regional archives tried to tell me <grin>

Hi all,

I've got a couple of files up on Viewmate - a postcard in German (or
perhaps
transliterated Yiddish, but there seem to be some German words in there),
and
a Polish marriage record. I'd like a complete translation of the postcard,
but for the marriage record, I only need the relevant details - names,
dates,
occupations, ages, etc. The files can be found at:
