PODHORZER / PODHORCER of Tzfat, Tarnopol, Berezhany / Oziran, Terebovlya / Trembowla #ukraine

Yaron Pedhazur

Dear Genners,

I am searching my PODHORZER roots. My ancestor Yonah
PODHORZER came to Tzfat >from TARNOPOL (Galicia),
b.1814 - d. 1894 [immigrated 1858].

His gf, or ggf, was (Abraham yosef) Moshe ABD
Grzyma³ów (Harimlov), author of "Imrey Moshe" (d.
1836, Tarnopol).

Questions:

1. Moshe of Grzyma³ów's father was Yacov. other than
that, there are no further details on his origin.
there is a family tradition of descendancy >from Rabbi
Saul WAHL ("king of poland for one day..."), but I
cannot say via which branch.

2. Yonah's father name was Yacov as well. there are
two versions on who he was: he was either a son of
Moshe, or a grandson (son of his son Arieh Leib). it
is known that Moshe had a son named Yacov, but it is
not sure whether he was Yonah's father or uncle.

3. Related to Q2 -- Yacov and Arieh Leib lived, and
been ABDs, at some point, in Oziran, Trembowla and
Tarnopol. it is not clear when and why transitions
have been made. Also, no info their wives and
families.

4. finding descendants: my branch of the PODHORZER
family came to Tzfat. there was large family left in
Tarnopol area. I have noticed many record over
JRI-POLAND, also talked to descendants. however, no
one can trace the families there to my ancestors
(Moshe "Imrey Moshe" or his sons).

5. Yonah PODHORZER moved to Tzfat as he had no sons,
and the Rabbi (of Ziditchov) told him that in TZFAT he
will have. I know he had a wife and a daughter left in
Tarnopol. also, I was surprised to find out that Yonah
had a brother in Tzfar named Zvi PODHORZER (who had a
son YEHUDA), and a sister Malka.
I didn't manage to find anything about them, or if
they left any families.

Any info on these questions will be appreciated!

thank you,
Yaron Pedhazur

Effie FRIED, child in Vienna about 1930 #austria-czech

Joseph Lonstein

It's a long-shot, but I'm following up on a photograph in a family album.
The young girl is alone in the photo and appears to be about 8 years old.
The only information written is that her name was Effie FRIED. The photo
was probably taken in Vienna around 1930, which would suggest that she was
born there. Might Effie have been a nickname for Stefanie, Euphemia
(unlikely), or Fannie? I don't know anything else about her, but do not
find anyone with a similar name at an appropriate age in the Austrian
victim's lists.

She is likely related to my family, as my great-great-great-grandmother was
Sali POLLAK (nee FRIED) born in Kalladay/Kolodeje, Czech Republic around
1820 to Abraham FRIED and Sara/Genendel (family name unknown). Sali is also
the great-great-great-grandmother of another of our SIG members, Ludwig
Marbach in Austria. Sali and her husband Moses POLLAK lived in Blatna,
Czech Republic and had at least three daughters, two of whom later lived and
died in Vienna. Perhaps Sali and Moses also had a son who also eventually
made his way to Vienna, and might have been the grandfather of this young
girl?

Thanks for any leads,

This death certificate may or may not be for a Dina K? It appears here in
both Yiddish and Russian. I would appreciate any attempts to translate these
and I realize that these records are not of the best quality.

Excerpt About Radzilow From the Book "We Are Jedwabne" #general

Jose Gutstein

I've added a fascinating excerpt about Radzilow >from Anna Bikont's book "We
Are Jedwabne" dealing with the events of the Holocaust in Jedwabne (July 10,
1941) and three days earlier in Radzilow (July 7, 1941). This excerpt is
very enlightening in its detail, as we learn more and more, through the
words of the witnesses themselves, some of the events that transpired.

Re: H. LASS Ltd. #unitedkingdom

Catherine Youngren

I am researching a family member, Judah Morris ( Fred) Stroh, 1900 ( I
believe) -1950. Fred married Lily LASS of Cannon-place, Brighton at the
Great Synagogue, Duke Street, in January 1923 or 1926. Lily was the
daughter of H. LASS, and I believe that Fred worked for his father-in-law.
The company was simply known as H. LASS LTD. I would be interested in
knowing the nature of the company - I think it was clothing manufacture -
and where the company was located ,most probably in Brighton ? Any
information would be much appreciated.

Please contact me at balden@... (if you live in
Israel and are interested) - so that I can put you onto Ann
