Hi all,
Thank you for responding to my poorly worded question about
ordering form NARA. Warren suggested I write "microfilm reader"
instead of "big light box". Sorry for sounding like the weakest link...
I'm really not.
Next time I'll keep my thesaurus nearby and promise to use
grammar check. Maybe.

Hi All,

A large Jewish population was located in Cuba. My sister and I were born
in Havana.

Alot of the Steamship entries were through Elis Island >from Europe.

Is there a Steamship Directory that list travel >from Europe
to Cuba ?

Our family arrived in Cuba >from Poland circa mid 20's not yet sure of the
exaxt year.

Entry into the US was in 1954 through Florida.

Any lists available for Cuba to Florida ?

Thanks

Isaac

Re: Mac and the use of Jewish dates #general

George Farkas <gfarkas@...>

This is a clarification. I am not looking for a calendar convertor to
convert one date at a time. I am looking for a program that will convert a
whole database of dates and let me know what the Jewish date would be if
it was before or after sunset and what time sunset occurred on that day.
Conversely, converting a Jewish date would let me know the time of sunset
when the day started and when the day ended. I am told that the Mac can do
this. I cannot understand how this is possible as sunset comes at
different times in different locations. But if it is feasible, it would be
of great interest.

To all who have given me suggestions about a general calendar conversion
program, thank you, but that is not what I need.

George Farkas

Hi,

I have been told that the Mac can use the Hebrew calendar and even
considers the time of sunset. Does that mean that Mac users can
automatically and accurately convert Jewish dates to Gregorian dates and
vice-versa. If any Mac users have information on this, which can aid the
genealogy work tremendously. Does anyone know of a good calendar
conversion tool which considers the time of sunset?

Once again thank you for all the wonderful letters regarding my ggfather's
photo and clothing.

One his tombstone he is called Abram Shmuel GRUZD. One of his sons was
also called Shmuel. That doesn't make much sense to me. As far as I know
European Jews were very careful no to name their children after the living
(certainly not father and son). BTW there seems to be another such case on
my Polish side (father and son named Sholom).

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance,

Leah

Rozhnyatov YB (Perehinsko, Stryj, Dolina, Bolkhov, Kalush, #general

Thomas F. Weiss

Dear friends,

We have made great progress in translating the Yizkor Book
for Rozniatow which also includes information on the the neighboring
communities of Perehinsko, Stryj, Dolina, Bolkhov, Kalush, and
Stanislawow. Only about 70 pages remain to be translated >from the
Hebrew part of the book. You can read what has been completed thus
far at

http://www.jewishgen.org/Yizkor/Rozniatow/Rozhnyatov.html

This translation was made possible by the generous financial
contributions of many people, by the hard work of the JewishGen
volunteers (including Joyce Field and Lance Ackerfeld), and by the
wonderful translations of Jerrold Landau.

However, the most recent translation segments have exhausted
our funds. Thus, if you are interested in supporting the completion
of the translation of this very interesting Yizkor Book, I hope you
will feel generous and contribute to the funds for translation. If
you wish to contribute to the book's translation over the web, please
click on JewishGen's secure fund raiser page and be sure to select
Rozhnyatov

http://www.jewishgen.org/JewishGen-erosity/YizkorTrans.ihtml

I urge you to also contribute an additional amount to JewishGen,
which provides, at no charge, all of the expensive infrastructure for
this project and all the many others that we all enjoy.

For those who feel uncomfortable using credit cards on the web, you
can always simply mail a check (or send a fax with credit card info)
payable to JewishGen, Inc. (with a note earmarking the funds for the
Rozhnyatov Yizkor Book Project) to:

I have a question about divorce records for Las Vegas, Nevada. This
would be for Clark County (http://www.co.clark.nv.us/). The

Is there anyone reading this who lives in Las Vegas?

Can Avrum be Albert? #general

Vladimir Tetelbaum

Hi,

from EIDB records I found Peysan SHAPOCHNIKOF traveling to his son Albert
SHEPARD in Minnesota. I am looking for a son of my gret-grandfather Peysah
SHAPOCHNIK, Avrum-Shulim. Obviously, SHAPOCHNIKOF became SHEPARD, but is
Albert and equivalent to Avrum?

Also, I have the address of Albert SHEPARD in 1923. How would I go about
finding more information about his descendants?

Thanks,
