Hallo David Crook,

there is a Steven Adler in Glenhazel, Johannesburg. I cannot give out
addresses over the internet but I have given you the suburb. I do know the
street if anyone wants to contact me privtely. He's a fellow of around 56
(I hope I am not making him older than he is!) so his Mother would be around
82 or so if alive.

Tot Siens!
Sincerely

Hi Michael,

We'd all like to help, but perhaps you could give us more info
on the nature and progress of your search so far? Can you tell
us what kind of help you need?

Like what you are looking for that you haven't found yet, that
we can advise you on -- immigration, naturalization, vital
records here, census, city directory and/or phone book entries?

Believe me, once you clarify this to the group, your mailbox
will overload!:->

With best wishes,

Michelle Frager NYC

Who knows VINOKUR & BEIGEL/MAN in USA? #general

Herut Shlomoff <heruts@...>

Dear friends,
I am trying to help Eva Vinokur-Felberg >from Israel to find her VINOKUR and
BEIGEL relatives in USA.
Here is what she knows:
About VINOKUR
Her father's brother Ben-Zion VINOKUR , son of Moshe-Israel & Dvoira,
Born about 1900, came to America when he was 14.
Came from: (Probably) Zmerinsky/Vinitzkaya oblast, Ukraine.
Ben-Zion (probably changed) at first - lived with his uncle Rafuil BEIGEL.
He married Anna, lived in Chicago and had a daughter named Ruth and 2 sons
(names unknown).

About BEIGEL:
Her father's uncle immigrated to America.
His first name was: Rafuil (probably was changed in US)
His family name was: BEIGELMAN and he changed it to BEIGEL in US.

He lived in Chicago.

If any of the above rings any bell... please contact me privately.

Best regards,

The Forward #general

After my uncle died recently, my cousin came across an obituary >from the
Forward of my grandmother who died in 1929. This is obviously in
Yiddish which I need to get translated. My question is whether the
Forward printed many obituaries and whether there is an index of these
in either Yiddish or English.

Hello to all >from snowy Canada:

I have received a translation >from Russian to English, with three names

What might they be in Yiddish? Or, any other English names?

Thank you.

I have recently discovered the death record of Edith F. KOPPELMAN in
California on September 5, 1984 at the age of 98. She was born Frederike
REICHER to Markus REICHER and Sali ROSETH on August 3, 1886 in Iglo,
Hungary (Spisska Nova Ves, Slovalia). Does anyone know of her
descendants or any other family?

Volynya, Russia -- Where could it be? #general

Marty Meyers <meyers01@...>

Hi,

On the 1920 census, my great-grandfather Solomon SIDMAN
(reputed to be KIRCHNER before they changed it) was considerate enough
to list his and his wife's birthplace as something more than
just "Russia"!!
[If only my other relatives had been so thoughtful....but that is another
lament]

In any case, they said they were >from Volynya, Russia.

Shtetl finder finds no matches to this exact spelling but way too many
to a soundex search.

Is there a well known (or likely) match to Volynya known to folks out
there?

Thanks,

Marty Meyers

1900 E.D. maps for Minneapolis #general

SJHogarth <sjhogarth@...>

According to Minneapolis city directories (1900-1908) and another
document that I have, my late gguncle, Israel Silverstein, resided at
2911 N.E. F St. and Silver Lake Road.
So far I have been unable to locate such an address in the 1900 census.
My local LDS advised that they are unable to provide a map for that
census year and my local library has given up on receiving a copy from
NARA and advised that they have cancelled the request.

I am hoping that a member of this list has easy access to the E.D.s. for
Hennepin county and would be willing to assist me.
