FRANKFORT(Oldenzaal-Overijssel-Netherlands)-version #3-Dec 2002 #general

Ben Noach <bnnch@...>

With pleasure I announce:-
FRANKFORT-version #3- is on the Net !

Can be reached via:-
http://members.lycos.nl/bnnch/genfiles.html.
or directly at:-
http://members.lycos.nl/bnnch/ffport.html

This is a major update of version #2 of ultimo 1999:-
Number of individuals:-777 (was 681)
Number of marriages:-293 (was 257)
Number of individuals added, augmented, corrected, etc.:-276.

Some technical improvements were made at this upload:-
1)-For the first time the Brother's Keeper data files were added
to the formats. This reflects the most authentic and complete
picture of the database.

2)-a.-Both the GedCom and the RTF(Word) versions contain 8 formats
(4 with an English "dialogue" and 4 in Dutch); for the specification
of these formats and what they actually comprise, I also refer to:-
http://members.lycos.nl/bnnch/volumetable.html
So everyone can download the format, that suits him/her best.

b.-The 8 files are now linked directly on this volumetable, and can
be reached for "download" directly >from here.

3)-In the Surname List the new changes are accentuated in blue.

4)-The HTML versions, browsable online, have now both a Dutch and
an English version ("dialogue").

I shall happily receive all critisism, remarks, corrections and
additions. (Frankfort version #4 has already started !)

Many thanks for all the help and cooperation both in the past and the
future,

Ben Noach
Ramat-Gan (Israel).

Nathaniel = Sandel ? #germany

Marion Hattenbach Bernstein

Dear Friends,
I just ran across the name Sandel in records >from Hoof, Hessen.
At first I thought it might have been "Sender" -- a common nickname for
Alexander -- but at one point it was paired with Nasaniel (Nathaniel).

Have you run across this name before?

Seeking info on Israel Milejkowski, M.D. (1887-1943) of Warsaw #general

ayakph@...

Dear Sirs,
The research facility at the Western Galilee Hospital - Nahariya,
Israel, is seeking to contact relatives, friends and acquaintances
of Dr. Israel Milejkowski of Warsaw, who perished in Treblinka in
1943. In addition, any details further to the information we have
(see below) would be most welcome. We are particularly interested
in obtaining a photograph of Dr. Milejkowski.
The following details about him are known to us:
Israel Milejkowski was born in Warsaw in 1887. He studied medicine
in the Universities of Berlin and Warsaw, and qualified in Medicine
in 1914. He began his practice of medicine in 1918 in Warswa. During
the years 1930-1935 he served as Chairman of the Organization of
Jewish Physicians in Poland. During the period of the Holocaust he
worked in a hospital in the Warsaw ghetto, combatting the spread of
communicable diseases and conducting medical research in the ghetto.
He perished in the Treblinka extermination camp in 1943.
Thank you so much for your Help.

Sincerely,
Shaul M. Shasha, M.D.

I have in front of me the Ketuba of my late wife's maternal
grandparents. They were married at the Great Synagogue, London
in June 1884. It is printed in Aramaic and the blank spaces in
the ketuba are completed in handwriting by the Hebrew names of
the bride and groom and as well there is some difficult to read
handwriting in Hebrew at the bottom of the page. They may be the
signatures of the presiding ministers although there appear to
be more words than that. At the back is an abstract of the ketuba
in English which contains the full names in English of the bride
and groom. But at the same time on the Aramaic side there are, on
the left hand side, vertical printed spaces for the full English
names of the bride and groom. The same features exist on the
ketuba for my marriage in 1960 at a District Synagogue of the
United Synagogue.

Re: Israel/Palestine records? #latvia

martha <martha@...>

I'm looking for information about a couple that was probably married in
Israel/Palestine, possibly Tel Aviv, in 1940. I have looked in all of
my home resources and on the internet, and can't find any mention of
marriage records for Israel, let alone before 1948. Are there any? If
so, where are they held? Does the State Archives have them? I read in
a recent Avotaynu that the Israel State Archives was due to have a
website up by now. Does anyone know the URL?
Shalom, Betsy! In answer to your questions: it is unlikely that you
will find any Israeli records online.

Records >from the British Mandate period [1918-1948] are located in
Jerusalem at the Israel State Archives, as are the NEFUS [
population] registers >from 1878 - 1917 >from the Ottoman Empire [which
ruled the area >from 1575 until they lost it in WWI].

The International Conference of Jewish Genealogy Socieites [of the
IAJGS] is to take place in Jerusalem in 2004. We plan to make a lot
of these records available to our fellow genealogists, so you can
already plan to come to Jerusalem then!
