Seek book on Wuerzburg Landkreis #germany

B Frederics <picturethisfilm@...>

Hi,

Does anyone know where I can find a book entitled "Die ehemaligen
juedischen Gemeinden im Landkreis Wuerzburg" by J. Sporch-Pfitzer?

(It translates to "The former Jewish communities in the Wuerzburg
county".) I've tried an inter-library loan in the US, but it is not
available. Thanks.

Novoalexandrovskyi, Kaunas, Vydzka,Baban? #belarus

Yendor62@...

Dear Genners,

I am sending this at the suggestion of Dave Fox. For all of you who read
this posting a couple of days ago on the JewishGen site, my apologies for
repeating myself.

A few days ago, I received a translation of the Russian army service
record for my grandfather, Henoch ABELOWITZ. On the advice of the moderator
I am not sending the entire translation, due to its length.

I haven't had time to do my homework on this, but the places listed above
are mentioned in the papers. He was a rifleman in the 2nd Eastern Siberian
rifle regiment ( 1894 - 1899), and was admitted to and discharged >from
service in Novoalexandrovskyi Uyezd, City or village Vydzka, Gubernia
Kovenskaya (Kovno - now Kaunas, Lithuania). Also mentioned is the city
Niko'sk_Ussuriiskyi.

At one point he was permitted to travel to the city of Vil'na, and went to
Ekaterinslav (which is where I thought he originally came from). Uman and
Baban are also mentioned.

I have received numerous e-mails >from people with information about the
locations of most of these towns, so please don't go to the trouble of
looking them up for me.

If anyone is interested in seeing copies of the complete translations,
I'll be happy to e-mail them privately. I also have similar papers for my
other grandfather, Michel Leizer TROYANKER/TROIANSKY, who served in the 73rd
infantry Crimea's His Emperor's Highnesses Grand Princes Alexander
Mikhailovitch's regiment (1891-1902). the only unfamiliar place name in that
set is a city called Baturin. (He came >from the Uman area.)

Also, for the information of those of you who are looking for your own
family's army redords, I cannot help at all. These papers were found among
my family's old pictures, and have been hanging around unseen for decades
until now.
Thank you,

1948 Krynki Yizkor Book - Montevideo/Buenos Aires #belarus

Daniel Scaliter <scaliter@...>

Krynki Yizkor Book (Krynki 53'16, 23'47, Grodno Gub.)

Below there's a list of the transliterated surnames >from the yizkor
section of the Krynki Yizkor Book entitled "Krynki in Khurbn". This
book was edited by Alex Sofer and published in 1948 in Montevideo by
the "Krynki Residents Aid Comitee" >from Montevideo (Uruguay) and
Buenos Aires (Argentina).
This book is listed in JewishGen Yizkor Book Database and is other
than "Pinkhas Krynki" published in Tel Aviv in 1971. This surname
list duplicates surnames >from "Pinkhas Krynki" but could be of
interest to trace family in Argentine or Uruguay.
There are three sections: people remembered by families >from
Montevideo, people remembered by families >from Buenos Aires, and a
list that's like a signature or contributors list.
These surnames are both Krynker victims and Uruguay and Argentine
residents. I tried to do the best I can with the transliteration but
would be some mistakes.

According to Marilyn's posting her grandfather's sister and her husband
were exterminated by the Germans in June 1941. However, it is not
improbable that they were murdered by local Lithuanians, rather than
by the Germans.

For a long time I was convinced that my grandparents >from Mazeikiai (north
of Kovne) were murdered by the Germans. Then I came across the book
"The Annihilation of Lithuanian Jewry" by Rabbi Ephraim Oshri (The
Judaica Press, New-York 1995). It was written there as follows:
"On July 24, 1941, the Germans entered Mazheik. But as in many other
Lithuanian towns, the first to murder the Jews were the Lithuanians."

The systematic extermination of Lithuanian Jewry by the Germans, including
concentrating Jews in Ghettos and deporting them to concentration and death camps, took place later. Refer to the Moderator's note to Marilyn's posting for bibliographical references.
