Town of Langenberg #general

DUMAY, Jocelyne

Can anybody tell me more about the town of Langenberg ? Was it in France or
in Germany in 1868, birth year of my ggfather. I would like to ask for a
birth certificate but I do not know where to write.

Thanks to all.

Hungarian name Erzsibet vs. Berta? #general

Sara Wenger <sara_wenger@...>

I found a reference to a Hungarian aunt named
Erzsibet. She is not listed in the LDS records.
However, a Berta is listed >from the same parents.
Could anyone familiar with Hungarian names comment if
a woman born as Berta (1891) may have Hungarianized(?)
her name to Erzsibet later?

Thanks

Sara

kirovograd #ukraine

Kenneth Ryesky <khresq@...>

Kirovograd was formerly called Yelizavetgrad when my grandmother was born
there. Seems that my grandmother's family may have moved there from
Odessa. There were several pogroms there.

Eideman versus Eidelman #ukraine

Efim Melamed <mefim@...>

To be sure, the late Natan Jakovlevich Eidelman, as well as his father
Yakov Naumovich Eidelman (I knew both of them), had no relations to
Red Army hero (incidentally, didn't you mix him with a Civil war hero
Robert-Petr Eideman,1895-1937?). As for the mentioned above Eidelmans
their roots, which I had a chance to track down partly, are in
Volhynia.

There was a writer Natan Jakovlevich Eidelman (1930-1989)
He could be your Jacob's son

Jacob Adleman (Edelman?) was a Jewish soldier who fought in the Red
Army in W.W.II.

EISENGART/BUNIS, DUBNO #ukraine

toby glickman <tglickman@...>

I would greatly appreciate any information on the families of my
grandparents Shye (Josiah, Josef) Eisengart and Perl Bunis. On Perl's
application for naturalization she states they were born and married
in Dubno, Gubernia Volynia. Perl named a brother, Motl as her
reference in Dubno. I believe Shye may have had a brother Moshe in
Truvitz. I have found some Bunises, but not >from Dubno, and have
failed to find any Eisengarts.

Many thanks. Toby Glickman (tglickman@mindspring.com)

Re: town names that cause confusion - Zurow, formerly Austria #poland

Mark Halpern <willie46@...>

The JRI-Poland database contains records for many small towns and
villages that do not appear in the JRI-Poland Town Index. Jews in
these smaller towns and villages registered their vital events
(birth, marriage, and deaths) in a nearby town where it was
proscribed that Jewish vital records be registered. The
collection of Jewish vital records at the Polish State Archives
are maintained under the name of the town of registration.

In Hazel's case, the vital records for Zurow are found in Rohatyn
and she should look in the Town Index under Rohatyn for
information.

I am familiar with the Galician recordkeeping. The best finding
aid to identify where your Galician town vital records were
registered is Appendix G in Suzan Wynne's book "Finding Your
Jewish Roots in Galicia: A Resource Guide." This listing is also
available >from Avotaynu on microfiche.

I'm not sure if my confusion is caused in quite the same way as
what you've
described, but I'm not totally clear about where ancestral town
fits in. I
received this response >from Mark Halpern (thank you Mark!)
which explains
somewhat, but I'm still not sure where I should see Zurow
listed on the JRI
Poland site and to where I could be sending my donation.
Here's what Mark
said:

Zurow was a town in the Rohatyn (Rogatin now) Jewish
administrative district during Austrian rule of Galicia. I
think
Zurow is now Zhurov, located at coordinates 4919, 2427 about 10
miles >from Rohatyn. All vital records for Zurow would have been
registered during Austrian rule in Rohatyn. I would not expect
to
find your town listed in the Routes to Roots database as it was
too small. I do not think Dzhuruv is the same town as
Shtetlseeker shows this town to be 77 miles away from
Rohatyn.<<

Fw: Grave in Warsaw cemetery #general

McCurdie

Dear Jewishgen

I know that my great grandfather died between June 1895 and February 1896
in Warsaw. I am trying to establish whether his grave in the Warsaw
cemetery is listed in any of their records. I have e-mailed the office of
the Warsaw Jewish cemetery directly but have had no response. Can anyone
help me with a suggestion of how to proceed to try and track down his
grave. My son is due to visit Warsaw in April and I would very much like
to be able to give him details of the grave so he can visit it.

Please e-mail me directly at barmel@bigpond.net.au
Thanks

Business in Plock, Poland 1884-1918 #general

lili susser <susserl@...>

Hi to all,
I remember my mother telling, her father had a "olejarnie" a oil
manufacturing business in Plock, Poland which burned down. I have no solid
dates or other clues. It would have happened between the years 1884 and
1918. Would there be a record of it somewhere? If so where do I begin a
search. Any help or suggestion will be appreciated

Happy Hanukah to all
