Sorry comeing back again to the same subject. I made another effort and
even if not with NETSCAPE but with EXPLORERI was able to reach on
VIEWMATE the page to TO VIEW, for some reason VM3311 was not on the
page, I picked up another picture and got its URL changeing it to the
wanted VM3311 as bellow
http://data.jewishgen.org/viewmate/ALL/viewmateview.asp?key=3311 this
way I got even in NETSCAPE the image. Here again I have some comment, as
the image had the size of 2423 x 960 Pixels and 300 dpi and was rotated
90 grad, I had to load in graphic programm (IRFANVIEW) rotate it 90
grad, reduce it to a sensible size. My recomandation would be to deposit
inqueries in a practical size which can be viewed on the majority of the
monitors, around 800 x 600 pixel and give the complett URL for
comfortable finding.

Best regards

Hi, One more puzzler.

On the 1848 Census for Zala County I have encountered a remark that I
cannot quite make out.

It concerns children whose parents are not listed.

I have traced the remark and it can be found under Viewmate.

I can read as follows:

Szulei (gend?)viselet alatt
Parents under ? behavior/conduct

Any help would be appreciated.

The Viewmate Reference is VM3311.
Thanks

I could reach the VIEWMATE but not the sight TO VIEW, so I was unable to
find the referenced image. In many case I would prefer to give the
direct URL to the picture, it might shorten the time to navigate through
different pages to the one you are looking for. For the translation I
would guess that "Szulei (gend?)viselet alatt" could mean "szülei
gondnoksàg alatt", under guardian, administrator, trustee, this might
have different reason, illness, mental problems, unable to menage the
financial problems, neglect the child, the family etc.

Best regards

Losice (Lublin) Project Raises $1920! #poland

RobinnM@...

Dear JRI-Poland researcher:

The Losice PSA/USC project is excited to announce that we have raised an amazing $1920 towards our $2100 goal in less than three weeks! Incredible! What a great Chanukah it has been! The generosity of Losicer researchers has been overwhelming, and now we're writing to ask you to help us raise another $180 by midnight, December 31, 2003...

If we can raise the whole $2100, we will qualify for $500 in matching funds. If we fall short, we will not receive any matching grant at all... and we are so close!

How You Can Make a Difference:

Donations now of any size are greatly appreciated and every dollar will help us get closer to our goal of $2100 by December 31st. However...

- Contributions of $100 or more and a signed Losice database sharing agreement make you eligible to obtain the EXCEL spreadsheets of the Losice PSA index data (1861-1902) for your own personal use.

- Gifts of $150 or more and a signed Losice database sharing agreement make you eligible to obtain the EXCEL spreadsheets of the Losice PSA index data (1861-1902) AND a file with all your family entries in the Losice USC index data (1903-1938) for your own personal use.

Donations can be accepted by check, VISA or MasterCard! Please earmark your contribution for the "Losice PSA/USC Project". Mail checks to:

selected countries, JRI-Poland is able to accept bank drafts in a donor's
local currency. Please check the JRI-Poland contributions web page for the
list of countries. If your country is not on the list, and you do not wish
to pay by credit card, please contact JRI-Poland Treasurer, Sheila Salo, for
further help. The web site address is:

http://www.jewishgen.org/jri-pl/contrib-non-us.htm

Please consider supporting this important work. If you have any questions or
comments, please contact either of us. We will keep you informed of our progress!

If you'd like your own copy of the Losice PSA Surname Index (1861-1902) or the Losice USC Surname Index (1903-1910, and 1922-1938), please contact Robinn Magid at: RobinnM@aol.com and she will send it to you directly.

With your help, we will make our goal and help preserve the names of the Jews of Losice.

Is Your Town near Michow (Lublin)? #poland

RobinnM@...

Dear JRI-Poland readers:

The Jewish Records Indexing-Poland group has indexed the 1856- 1901 Jewish vital records for Michow Lubartowska…

Michow Lubartowska is located at 5131 2218. Some interesting towns within 20 miles of Michow include:

Lysobyki 5.9 miles NNW
Kamionka 7.3 miles ESE
Firlej 9.6 miles ENE
Kurow 10.2 miles SSW
Kock 10.3 miles NE
Annopol 10.7 miles NNE
Wawolnica 12.2 miles NW
Piaski 12.8 miles ENE
Konskowola 12.9 miles SW
Wysokie 14.1 miles SSE
Lubartow 14.7 miles ESE
Bobrowniki 16.1 miles WNW
Czemierniki 17.8 miles NE

If you are interested in any of the above towns, you may also be interested in the Michow Lubartowska indexing project! Stan Zeidenberg, the Michow townleader has worked hard to get this close to the goal! Thanks Stan! We're hoping that you will now take an interest in Michow -- a place where there are very few researchers, and help us raise the final $150 needed to fully fund this project.

Here's how to make a contribution:

Like many other inquiries, this one is easily answered by making a Google
search on appropriate terms. In this case, for example, I searched for the
terms 'us army' and 'adjutant general', which rapidly led me to the website
of The Adjutant General: https://www-perscom.army.mil/tagd/

If you start there, I have no doubt that you will be able to find your
relative.

I commend to users of this forum, and of others like it, the use of Google
