Israel; "...The organizing committee for the Shtetls Radoshkovitsh,
Krasne and Rakov plans the commemoration ceremony for the Jews of those
towns who were murdered by the Fascists during the Shoa. It will be held
in the Wizo locals, at David Hamelekh Ave., 30 in Tel Aviv on Sunday,
March 14, 2004 at 18:00.

Descendants >from the above towns and also >from Horodok, Vishnievo and

Zvi Hirsh RABINOWITZ #general

Dear Genners,
Does anyone know the descendants of Zvi Hirsh RABINOWITZ.
He was the son of Meir HaCohen KATZ , born about 1830 and died in early 1900s.
He edited a Jewish Russian journal in St Petersburg and wrote books of a
scientific nature.
His sibs were not Rabinowitz and are accounted for, Just descendants please.

Does anyone know the descendants of Zvi Hirsh RABINOWITZ.
He was the son of Meir HaCohen KATZ , born about 1830 and died in early 1900s.
He edited a Jewish Russian journal in St Petersburg and wrote books of a

"The delights of Jewish genealogy: Family legends and long-forgotten
'tsuris.'"

Danny Wagner has researched his Polish roots since 1995, and has authored 10
genealogical papers. He is a co-chair of the 24th International Conference
of Jewish Genealogy to be held July 4-9 in Jerusalem, and is a member of the
Israel Genealogical Society.

Danny is a member of the JRI-Poland Board, the coordinator of the Grodzisk
Mazowiecki Archive Project, the Zdunska Wola JRI Shtetl co-op coordinator/
town leader, and chairman of the Organization of Former Residents of Zdunska
Wola in Israel.

He is Professor of Materials Science at the Weizmann Institute in Rehovot,
and has authored 145 scientific papers.

noon, Don Davis and Joan Rosen are offering a revised, amended update of the
presentation they gave in July 2003 at the IAJGS conference in Washington,
DC. Retitled < The Philadelphia Jewish Archives Center and Other Resources
for Jewish Genealogy in the Philadelphia Area >, the talks should run between
one and a half and two hours. The presentation will take place at
Mid-Atlantic Branch of the National Archives, 900 Market Street, Philadelphia.

March meeting of the JGS of Bergen County, New Jersey #general

Just a quick reminder... The Jewish Genealogical Society of Bergen
County will be having its next meeting on Sunday, March 14th. Estelle
Guzik will be speaking on Naturalization Records. The lecture will
include a discussion of HIAS (Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society) , and the
IRO (Industrial Removal Office). The main meeting starts at 2PM and is
held at the JCC on the Palisades in Tenafly. The JCC of the Palisades
is located at 401 East Clinton Avenue in Tenafly. Their phone number is
201-569-7900.

Meetings start with a schmooze session at 12:30 at the offices of
Avotaynu in Bergenfield. Avotaynu has a 400-book library about Jewish
genealogy and the Holocaust which you can browse. The purpose of the
schmooze session is to ask questions about that can advance your
personal research. Do you have any brick walls that are slowing your
research? Perhaps other members of JGSBCNJ can help you. If you are
interested in attending the schmooze session, please call the offices of
Avotaynu (201-387-7200) a few days before to insure that that there has
not been change in plans.

* * * About Estelle Guzik * * *
Estelle M. Guzik, compiler and editor of the recently published
Genealogical Resources in New York, served as President of the Jewish
Genealogical Society, Inc., >from 1996 to 2001 and Vice-President >from
1985-1990.

Estelle has been a member of the JGS almost >from its inception in 1977.
She served as editor of the JGS' Resources for Jewish Genealogy in the
New York Area in 1985, Genealogical Resources in the New York
Metropolitan Area, published in 1989, and is a frequent contributor to
Dorot, the JGS newsletter and other genealogical publications. The 1989
edition of Genealogical Resources in the New York Metropolitan Area was
selected by the New York Public Library, Research Libraries, as the
best reference book of that year. During her term as president, the JGS
completed a project cataloging over 10,000 landsmanshaftn, synagogues,
family circles, labor unions and other Jewish organizations with
cemetery plots in New York-New Jersey cemeteries. She coordinated the
creation of an award-winning database - the work of over 100 volunteers
of the JGS, the German Genealogy Group and the Italian Genealogy Group -
that computerized the index to over 253,000 naturalization records filed
in the Kings County Clerk's Office, 1907-1924. The result of these
efforts can be found on the JGS' website (www.jgsny.org), created during
her tenure. Estelle has a B.A. in political science >from Brooklyn
College and a master's degree in urban planning >from Hunter College. She
served as director of compliance for the U.S. Department of Housing and
Urban Development, and was formerly staff director to the Federal
Regional Council in New York. Estelle began to research her own family
history in 1970 when she realized she did not know the names of aunts,
uncles and cousins killed in the Holocaust.

Signed copies of her book will be available for purchase at the meeting.
