Finding a business in the 1929 Polish Business Directory #poland

Hazanjo <hazanjo@...>

OK...I've given this a try on my own. Either the information isn't in this
directory or I'm going about it the wrong way. My Aunt asked me to find an
address for my Great Grandfather's (Israel Joseph (Yasoff Srol)Kanet) place
of business in Czyzewo, Poland. He was a Tsitzasmacher. He left for the US
in 1930 leaving the business to his son-in-law. I assumed that this meant
his place of business would be in the 1929 Directory, but so far I've had no
luck. I'd appreciate any help or guidance.

Thanks,

Hazel Sandow Boon

Re: Naming children after deceased children #poland

Gary Mokotoff (Optonline) <garymokotoff@...>

David Edelman asked if a child dies at a very young age, do Jews name the
very next child after the deceased child.

Jews of the mid-19th century were very superstitious. It is more likely that
the name would not be used because of the fear that the new child would
suffer the fate of the first one.

In the Mokotow family, the "founder" of the family, who was highly revered,
died in 1842. The first male child in the family to be born after the death
of the founder was named after him. Unfortunately the child died at age six
months. The name was not reused for 15 years!!

On 2004.03.12, I wrote:

Can someone help me identify the town where this Yeshiva was in
Eastern Europe? Chachme Savlin is not found in Poland searches
on Google. Perhaps there is another spelling?
Perets Mett, a RavSIG member, wrote to me privately that I probably
should look for Chachmei Lublin. He was correct. The place is
Lublin.

My apologies for the error.

You should check what is now the Chicago Sun-Times. At the time period you
are searching they were 2 separate papers. Also check the Herald American.

Assistance needed with manifest #general

sjkmb4@...

I have a partial manifest >from my ggm which I got at either the archives or
Mormon Church. I cannot find the past the calling or occupation and would
very much like the info. I no longer can go to either of the places and
cannot find it on line at Steve Morse's site or the missing manifest site.

The info is Sore Lipeles age 54 a widow who arrived >from Libau >from Ansopol
Russia. The ship arrived on 12/26 or 27th, it varies , 1912. It is on page
313 or page 315 line 18. Thank you in advance for any assistance. I found
the test printout but it only went up to her being >from Ansopol, Russia.

Would someone please try to translate Akt88 >from Russian to English, including

and where this took place if shown.

WEINER Holocaust Survivor #general

Carol Zsolnay ORG <carol@...>

Is this familiar to somebody? I am trying to find the following person or
descendent of:

Katalin WEINER, probably born in the 1910s-20s, in Szentes, Hungary, or
maybe Budapest.
She was liberated >from a concentration camp/work camp called
Holysov/Holysovy/Holeischen/Holeischen/Holleischein (a subcamp of
Flossenburg.) Right after the war, she and others liberated with her worked
in/near Pilsen, Czech Republic at the Hotel Metropol, maybe as a waitress.

Her parents were probably Mr and Mrs Miksa WEINER of Szentes--and they died
at Auschwitz.

If any of this sounds remotely familiar, please let me know.

Thanks in advance for checking!

Where Is Feline or Feilene, Russia? #general

West24th <west24th@...>

Thanks to everybody who rseponded to my previous querry with all the various
posibilities of where this place might be or is presently called. Looking again
at the Ellis Island Data Base for the arrival of Joseph RUDICK in 1911 with
fresh ideas, I now see that what I thought was a first letter as being F, might
actually be a T & so I'm now guessing it to be Tallinn in present day Estonia.
The many suggestions were very helpful & appreciated
Best Regards,
Howard Sedlitz, New York.
