Hello
I am looking for the family of Taube Malamud. She is the daughter of
Ruchel and her brother was Avigdor. Taube came into the country
in 1908 and was 10 years old. Her brother Avigdor was 17 and
came in a few years earlier with his mother Ruchel.
They settled in New York.
Any help will be appreciated.

Jews owning property #unitedkingdom

Mark and Tamara Shofron

Some recent postings regarding Jews owning property in
England in the 19th century has raised some questions
for me.

My GGGrandfather, Hyman Aaronson, in his 1882 will,
left seven Chelsea properties to his children. I had
assumed that he has acquired them over the course many
years, some prior to 1870. I would be interested to
hear >from fellow genners about Jews owning property
prior to the 1870's. Was it done but not officially
sanctioned? Was it done by proxy? Perhaps they could
own property below a certain value or only in certain
areas? I would be interested in what others have
discovered.

Swiss death #general

Israel P

The following death notice appeared in the NY Times in February 1990:

PICKHOLZ-JOHANNES - Salome Mme, died peacefully in her
sleep on February 2, 1990 in her beloved Vevey Switzerland.

That is the entire announcement.

I have no idea who this Pickholz woman is.

Can anyone give me some direction to find a grave,
next of kin or any identifying information?
Maybe a Swiss death announcement?

Archives of the Ministry of Interior, Vienna #general

Denise Azbill <famaz1@...>

In looking through a Yizkor book on the JG Yizkor book site, I found a
footnote for the "Archives of the Ministry of Interior, Vienna".
This info in the Yizkor book included one of the names I am
researching. Does anyone know about this entity,
and how they can be reached?

Thank you,

I would be grateful if anyone with information about my relative Rabbi
Matitiahu/Mates KALTER, who lived in Nowy Sacz before WWII and until his
death in 1942, would contact me. He was born in 1893 in Przemysl, was
married to Zisale WEINTRAUB, had two children, and may have owned a
hardware/tool store there.

Thanks very much and best regards,

What does this translate to in English? #general

Ricki L. Zunk <nockbockle@...>

While searching the Internet for my RENDELSTEIN family, I came upon a
listing on the IMDb (Internet Movie database) for a Wilhelm Rendelstein.
The listing says that he was a "cinematographer" and listed the phrase
"Lazi mene radi (1923)."

I went to an several online translators to see what "lazi mene radi"
means in English (believing that this particular phrase was written in
German). Unfortunately, not one of the translators could give me an
English translation for the phrase.

I'm now thinking that perhaps the phrase is not written in German.
Might it be Hungarian? I really don't know what language it might be.
So, I'm turning to our very knowledgeable membership to ask for help.
If anyone out there can understand what this phrase means, please write
back to me privately nockbockle@mindspring.com and tell me what it
means.

Thanks in advance,
