number of Russian records left to translate.

Is any kind group member willing to translate only 6 index pages (about 20 names
per page) ?

Once we do this we will have finished extracting names >from all of the approx.
2300 records >from 1831 through to 1870.

The "film notes" in the FHL catalog show that the main part of the 7
reels is marriage records (Eheprotokolle). Births are noted only for two
periods of two years each. There are also "miscellaneous" (Verschiedene)
records.

The mention Zivilstandsregister seems to point at records made by a
civil (i.e. non-religious) authority. On the right bank of the Rhine,
this could only be the local nobleman owning Meerholz, if any. Usually
the word Zivilstand is limited to the left Rhine bank, where the French
occupation and temporary annexation >from 1798 to 1815 introduced civil
vital event recording. >from 1812 or so on, civil recording of the Jews
on the right bank was performed by he local Christian priest on special
registers, usually identified by "Jewish records" in the catalog, but
not always spotted by the filming squad.

My suggestion : try with one reel, according to the time frame you are
interested in.

to pay a premium for fast service. For these researchers, Jewish

A correction to the previous message:

Yesterday, I made an announcement about the new Express ordering
service and said this service applied to three Polish State
Archives (PSA) branches. Although JRI-Poland and PSA have every
intention of including Lomza in this Pilot program, I was
premature in announcing their inclusion.

At the current time only Bialystok and Lublin are included in the
Pilot program. Lomza will be added at a later date and this will
be announced on this forum.

In my experience, the single most successful strategy is to use the
JewishGen Family Finder ! List all the names you are researching and also
search on TOWN to connect with others who are searching families >from
Nesvizh. They may not have entered every name of interest, but may find a
name in their personal lists that have a connection to one of yours.

There is no limit on the number of names you may enter in the JGFF, so
enter them all!

After only 5 weeks, I received the social security application for a deceased
cousin or niece of my great-grandfather. As often happens when one researches, it
answered some questions and gave rise to more. On the overall, a good experience.
BUT... I have three technical questions that perhaps someone can answer.

I requested [per one of the other genealogy web-sites suggests] a photocopy of the
actual application for a Social Security card, (Form SS-5 Social Security Number
Record Third Party Request for Photocopy.) I received an enlarged photocopy of
Form 3227 - U.S. Treasury Dep't. - IRS Application for an Account Number, which
looks exactly like the form that I filled out for myself in 1971.

Should I have asked for the Form SS-5 in the first place? This cousin applied
when she was 66-69 years old in 1963. When I wrote the letter to the Social
Security Adminstration I had no idea as to when she had applied. [She had been
widowed during the Depression.] Was the form number or method of giving out
Social Security cards and numbers changed at some point? Would it make it easier
for the Social Security Adminstration if one asks for one form prior to a certain
date and another form after said date?
