1873 Galician / Polish Birth Record Translation needed VM 4415 #general

Adelle Gloger

Dear Genners,

I have posted to View Mate a copy of my grmo's birth record. ( my first
attempt at scanning anything) She was born in Tarnopol in 1873. Her
parents, Josef Lorber and Rivke Kasten, did not have a civil "legal"
marriage until 1891. At that time my grmo, Sara Golda Lorber, had her
birth registered. My grandmother married in 1892.

I have given this explanation because of the dates that appear on the
document. The document can be seen on ViewMate4415.

Thank you all for your wonderful help in the past.

Galveston as port of entry to USA #general

Ida & Joseph Schwarcz <idayosef@...>

There are two booklets in Yiddish which should be of interest to people
whose ancestors came to the US via Galveston, Texas. Volume two,
" Emigrantn lebn in Galveston," (Kiev: Jewish Emigration Society, 1912)
contains lists of emigrants, hometowns, where they settled in US,
occupations, and weekly wages. It is available at Hebrew Union College
Library, Cincinnati, Ohio. The first volume is " Vos hot unz gegebn di
Galvestaner emigratsye?" (Warsaw, 1910) It is mentioned in volume two,
but I have been unable to track it down.
Sincerely,
Ida Selavan Schwarcz

Greczanik & Feldman from Ukraine #general

amir kolner <amirkol@...>

Hello,
I'm looking for information about my grandmother's family. She was born in
Bereznica - Ukraine.
Her name was Tsvia (Tsila) GRECZANIK, the daughter of Abraham and
Yocheved and the grandaughter of Arye & Hasya GRECZANIK >from her
father side and Yitzhak & Tsvia FELDMAN >from her mother side. Both her
mother and her father were married before and each came with his
children. Yochved, her mother, was married to Sanya SHNEIDER and
they had 2 children, Moshe & Max. Abraham, her father, was married to
Tzipora and they had 5 children. My grandmother used to work as a
teacher in a near by town called, Remchich (I'm not sure about the
spelling). The FELDMAN family had relatives in another near by towns
called Rachwalowka and Chartorysk. (Although it is possible that the
surname of the family lived in Chartorysk was FERD).
I do know that Yochved, the mother of my grandmotherm had couple of
brothers who moved to America in the beginning of the 20th century.
They're names are: Shmuel, Yosef and Mordechay FELDMAN and they
are apparently >from Rachwalowka.
I hope someone will see this e-mail and would be kind enough to let me
know some details,
Thank you very much for you time and trouble,

MASTENBAUM/KIRSHENBAUM in Buenos Aires #general

I am searching for MASTENBAUM family members who emigrated >from
Poland in the early 1900's to the Buenos Aires area.

They are all descendants of Shia (Isaias) MASTENBAUM and Chana
Sura KIRSHENBAUM (Kierzenboim and various other spellings) both
born c. 1876.

Children of Shia and Chana Surah have married into GLUZ and
WIND-ENTERBERG familes which I am also searching.

KIRSHENBAUM (varoius spellings) family in Buenos Aires would be
descendats of Boruch KIRSHENBAUM.

Rabbi Mordekhai JAFFE the "Levush" #general

Chaim freedman

There are a number of versions of the ancestry of Rabbi Mordekhai Jaffe
the "Levush": that of the Eiger family, the late Paul Jacoby, tables in the
Jewish Encyclopedia and in some of the classic nineteenth century
genealogy books.

I am interested in locating primary sources for the Jaffe ancestry,
including perhaps the alleged descent >from Rashi. There is much
confusion in the sources.

I would appreciate hearing >from anyone who has made a study of this
subject.
