Rabbi Zevulun Yehoshu'ah #rabbinic

Shoshana L. Boublil

Hi,

Some of you may remember that I am looking for information
concerning Rav Zevulun Yehosuah who was at some point in time a
Moreh Tzedek in Sugintai (Zamut).

I've been in touch with YIVO and their researcher found the
following information for me (I think it's >from Otzar HaRabbanim by
Friedman):

This what is written: me-Mishpahah gedolah meyuheset, gedoley
Yisra'el ma-khamah dorot. rav go'an mefursam. rav be-ir Hodesh be
hisyasdut ha-kehiylah(530). Beno ha-rav Rebi Sholom Naysht'ter.

Translation: >from a respected and well connected family, important
rabbis for several generations. A known genius. Rabbi of the city
Hodesh at the establishement of the community (530). His son is
Rabbi Sholom Naysht'ter.

Can some one shed some light on this information? Where is
"Hodesh"? Who is Rav Sholom Naysht'ter?

Thank you.

Belarus to Argentina - Burial Search Engine #belarus

David M. Fox <davefox73@...>

For those of you who have family >from Belarus who immigrated to Argentina,
check out:

http://www.amia.org.ar/difuntos.asp

While I don't speak Spanish, I was able to easily use the search engine of
burials in Argentina. Perhaps one of our SIG members in Argentina can tell
us how to get additional information about family members who are found in
this database. For example, how to get the death certificate, how to get a
photo of the burial monument, etc.

MAGNIFYING MANIFESTS Fw: Steve Morse Ellis Island List #belarus

Joan Parker <joanparker@...>

Dear Genners:

This was sent to me by Steve Morse with his permission to send it along to the List
and is the last paragraph of his message. It was sent in response to my posting
about Irfanview and Lois's request re Aron GRIEF.
If you'd like to post this on the discussion group so that others can
benefit >from it, feel free to do so.

-- Steve Morse
Joan, Lois,

There is a better way than using irfanview. All irfanview can do is
make things bigger, but the resolution (dots per inch) will decrease
when you do so. What you want to do is magnify and keep the same
resolution so you can see more detail.

You can do that by using the magnify option on my missing manifest
page. The simplest way to do this is to start with my ship-lists page,
enter Grecian and 1893, then click on the July sailing. That will get
you to my missing manifest page starting at the first frame for that
ship arrival. Specifically it will be frame 258. The manifest that
contains Aron Greif is on frame 259 so you simply have to advance one
frame. Then set magnify to 1.0 and click display. You will now see an
enlarged version of the page with excellent resolution.

If you'd like to post this on the discussion group so that others can
benefit >from it, feel free to do so.

location in queens ny help #general

Marsha Rapp

I have a copy of my father's notification that a certificate of birth
has been filed. On this notification it says that he was born at 55
Vandeventer Ave. in Queens in 1922. I have been unable to locate this
street or to figure out what this could have been. This was, as far as
we know, *not* his residence. The family lived at the time on Steinway
Avenue or they might have moved to Oak Street by then. If anyone could
either tell me what this was or where to go to try to find it, I would
be grateful.

Thanks
Marsha

My friend's grandfather lists his town as "Krutzy, Russia". On another document
it is written "Konze, Russia". The family always pronounced it as Kruche.

I'm having trouble finding it on the usual sources. Does anyone know where it
might be?

1945 Queens burial #general

Logan J. Kleinwaks

I am searching for the grave of a relative who died in Queens in about 1945.
I do not know the exact date of death or even the exact name she was buried
under (her children used several different surnames). I called every Jewish
cemetery in Queens I could find, but none found a record of her. Does
anyone have suggestions, other than asking NY to do a wide-ranging search,
or manually searching countless obituaries?

Thanks very much.
