Yiddish Theatre and Vadeville #YiddishTheatre Clara YOUNG #yiddish

This is my first time on this discussion group, so I apologise if the
format is not correct.
I am doing some genealogy research and my 2 x Gt Grand mother was called
Clara YOUNG. I know that she was a singer (opera perhaps) and was born in
Germany. Her first daughter was born in America (around 1890) . I cannot
find much about her but I did find reference to a Clara Young in the index
to the Yiddish Theatre (pages 25, 36, and 58).

Could this be the same person?

Does anybody know of a transcript or online images (I have a photo of Clara
Young so I could compare), or does somebody know anything about the Clara
Young in the book? I could then confirm or dismiss this line of research.

My 2 x Gt Grand mother was born in Saxony around 1870.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Here is what I found:

PUGLIESE is a Jewish familyname documented in Venezia (Venice), Genova
(Genoa) and Piemonte (Piedmont)
RUSSI and RUSSO are italian Jewish surnames
LEONI is a Jewish surname >from Roma (Rome) and North Italy.
But I didn't found any of the composed familyname AMALEONI / AMALCONI /
AMALEONE
etc.

Dear Genners,

I am researching the names PUGLIESI / PUGLIESE,
AMALEONI / AMALCONI / AMALEONE and DI RUSSO. I just
found my grandmothers' marriage certificate with these
names on it. We couldn't make out the Amaleoni name
and none of the variants seen to exist. Does anyone
know a similar name or know anything about these
names? One person told me that Pugliesi was Sephardic
and one person said it was ancient Roman Jewish.

Thank you for your help.

I have posted a fragment of a Passenger list on Viewmate. It's a notation
that such and such passengers are "Tweendeck". What that means? Never before
have I seen or heard about such notation in the passenger lists.

Procedure for late registrations in Poland? #general

Kirsten Gradel <kmgradel@...>

Jews seem to have moved around a lot - and they were not always keen on
civil registration.

How was it done/what was the law if a family with unregistered children
moved to another town and then years later, for whatever reason, wanted
the children registered.

I imagine they had to go/return to the town where the events took place
in order to register but I need to know. Tme the 1870-80ies, place
Lublin Gubernia.

Thanks

Will Social Security release submitted proof of age documentation? #general

roberta rosen

Many people born in the early part of this
century were born at home and a birth record was
never filed. This was my mother's situation; her
early school records were accepted as proof of
age when she applied for Social Security
benefits.

I have located a family member born in Minnesota
in 1901(1910 census), however there seems to be
no birth record. I have also found him in the
SSDI, so he must have submitted some sort of
alternative proof of age documentation.

Does anyone know if Social Security will release,
under the "Freedom of Information Act," documents
such as those submitted for proof of age, along
with the usual copy of the original Social
Security application? Has anyone ever received a
copy of such documentation of age?

Hi all,

A query recently asked if a "Mary Street" might be located in Brooklyn
Borough, NYC. There are several entries in Forgotten Streets [renamed] that
are located in lower Manhattan in Manhattan Borough . The enquirer might try
to correlate any of these with existing City Directories.

Mary Street original name of Christopher St.b/w Greenwich Ave. & Waverly PI.
Mary Street original name of Baxter St.b/w Leonard & Gr & Sts.
Mary Street original name of Clevel & PI. & Lafayette St.
b/w Broome & Prince Sts.

Posted on JewishGen at
http://www.jewishgen.org/belarus/grodno/bres.htm
is a translation of the Vsyia Rosia done by Amy
Levinson in 1999.

I would like to obtain some additional information
about this Vsyia Rosia:

It makes reference to being for the ?Brest town?.
? Does this mean just the Shtetl of Brest or does it
cover a larger area?
It means the town (shtetl) itself as opposed to the district (uezd) of
which it was the main town.

Are the below listed words that appear under the
?Address? column the names of streets?
It seems to be a mix of actual addresses and descriptions of the
business located there.

? What would ?dv? be an abbreviation for?
Probably the house number. The only Belorussian dictionary I can find
online is down temporarily or permanently, but the Russian word for door
is "dver'".

? What is ?Tov? an abbreviation for?
In Russian, "tovary" means goods.
What is riad an abbreviation for?
In Russian, "riad" means row or line.
Galanteria
Haberdashery

In the Notes column there are listed some of the
below words. What do they mean?
This column seems to be the original >from which the "Occupation" column
was translated.
Muka
Flour
Chai
Tea
Knigi
Books
Manuf. Tovar
Manufactured goods
