I have posted a fragment of a Passenger list on Viewmate. It's a notation
that such and such passengers are "Tweendeck". What that means? Never before
have I seen or heard about such notation in the passenger lists.

Procedure for late registrations in Poland? #general

Jews seem to have moved around a lot - and they were not always keen on
civil registration.

How was it done/what was the law if a family with unregistered children
moved to another town and then years later, for whatever reason, wanted
the children registered.

I imagine they had to go/return to the town where the events took place
in order to register but I need to know. Tme the 1870-80ies, place
Lublin Gubernia.

How was it done/what was the law if a family with unregistered children
moved to another town and then years later, for whatever reason, wanted
the children registered.

Will Social Security release submitted proof of age documentation? #general

Many people born in the early part of this
century were born at home and a birth record was
never filed. This was my mother's situation; her
early school records were accepted as proof of
age when she applied for Social Security
benefits.

I have located a family member born in Minnesota
in 1901(1910 census), however there seems to be
no birth record. I have also found him in the
SSDI, so he must have submitted some sort of
alternative proof of age documentation.

Does anyone know if Social Security will release,
under the "Freedom of Information Act," documents
such as those submitted for proof of age, along
with the usual copy of the original Social
Security application? Has anyone ever received a
copy of such documentation of age?

I'm looking for all kind of information about the family name Kroovand /
Kruvand [there are lots of variation to this name] >from the cities / areas :
Poltava, Chernigov, Kherson, Berdichev [Berdyciv], Perejeslav Chmelnyckyi,
Borispol.
I have information [on each one of these places] I had family in those
cities.

The origin of my family is - Cekiske = small village north west to Kaunas.
The family spread away to all the places above.

I'm listed in the Lithuanian sig and searched the All Lithuanian Database. I
have searched the 'Ukrainian sig' site - found nothing.

Probably the house number. The only Belorussian dictionary I can find
online is down temporarily or permanently, but the Russian word for door
is "dver'".

? What is ?Tov? an abbreviation for?
In Russian, "tovary" means goods.
What is riad an abbreviation for?
In Russian, "riad" means row or line.

Hi Genners
Has anyone ever dealt with adoption issues. A distant relative married a
women who was adopted and grew up in a Jewish Conservative home in NJ. Her
parents told her that the biological mother was Jewish. She grew up and married
my relative by a Conservative Rabbi. They have 2 children. Now when the oldest
child is to become a Bar Mitzvah, the Orthodox Rabbi is demanding proof of the
mother being Jewish. The mother's parents died when she was around 12 years old
and was then again adopted by her parents best friends. The woman never doubted
that she was Jewish. The woman was never interested in searching for her
biological mother and doesn't have any information about her. When it was
suggested that the children be converted anyway, the rabbi said that he couldn't
convert a Jew if he was Jewish already. Any suggestions about how to deal with a
situation like this?
