I am trying to find out more information about a brother of my husband's
grandfather, Saul FLACH, who went >from Kalisz to New York around 1889 and was
naturalised about 1896.

We know that he died some time between 1908 and 1913 in Philadelphia and wondered
which Jewish cemeteries would be the most likely to find his burial?

In the 1900 census the family, Saul and his wife Mildred (Millie) and their twin
boys were living in Wharton Street, Philadelphia. By 1908 the family consisted of
Saul and Mildred (Millie) had 4 children but I have not been able to find any of
the family in the 1910 census.

Depending on the information found in the census and also immigration index etc
Saul was either listed as Salomon/Solomon or Sol.

Any help with regard to possible Philadelphia Jewish cemeteries in use during 1908
to 1913 would be most appreciated.

I am looking for any information on Haim Zeev (Velvel) OKS >from Kremenets.
I am looking for any information on this man or his descendents. He was born
around 1910 and emigrated to Argentina in the 1930s. He was actively involved
with other Kremenetzers in Argentina.

I am also looking for information on Shlomo and /or Reuven GUZ (or GAS) of Kovel
born around 1900 and emigrated to Argentina in the early 1920s.

I would guess, without knowing more about the location, etc, that Echov would have
been >from Ek, short for Esko. I had a cousin by this name. It is derived >from a
Hebrew name, but not Jacob.

1. Should I assume that if the Beider Poland Book lists a last name as
"Rabbinic", (examples of some names: Adler, Halpern, Alber), that the members of
these family were >from the Kohanim tribe?

2. In the 18th and 19th centuries, were there Rabbi who were Levy's and
Israelites? Or just Kohanim?

3. Should I, also, assume that there were Rabbi in the Adler, Halpern, and Alber
families that I am researching (18th and 19th century) or not necessarily?

wedding announcements.

I am researching William SWART, and I see that there is a date of 6/18/1915 as the
wedding announcement.

Another question, is that the date of the wedding or the date that it was listed
in the Advocate? Above the date it says Issue Date.

to locate village whereabouts by using Bereg's 1910 map.

There have been many stories about Abraham Lincoln's origins which grew out of
opposition to him during various elections and the Civil War period as well as the
lack of information about him. It was speculated that he was a Black, a Jew, and
other things. These stories mainly focused on his mother Nancy Hanks whose
origins were cloudy.

Various records and stories have been brought forward attesting to the fact that
Nancy Hanks was actually illegitamate and that she then had an illegitamate child,
Abraham Lincoln. If this is true then it becomes doubly difficult to determine
the origins of Abraham Lincoln.

One of the most persistent rumors was that Abraham Lincoln was the son of John C.
Calhoun, well-known South Carolina politician, whom he looked like. Calhoun was a
frequent patron of a tavern where Nancy Hanks worked. Another that he was the son
of Abraham Enloe, a man who hired Nancy Hanks and then got her pregnant. In all
these accounts, the purported father paid Thomas Lincoln to take the pregnant
Nancy Hanks away and marry her.

All of this is further confused by the many women who were named Nancy Hanks who
abounded in those days, including one who was a relative of Lincoln's mother who
had an illegitamate child.

So, it may never be known what Lincoln's exact orgins were unless DNA testing is
possible.
