After years of searching I have finally gotten a line on my mother's
family,Abraham HERSCOVITZ (1849) m Jennie(Shaindel) Lebovitz (1845)
from Faltacieni Romania. Children we have identified: Harry whose name
was changed to COHN, Max, Nettie, Clara Harry born 1872 married Fruma.
Do any of these names appear in any of your histories. I have tried to
find them on the Ellis Island site, but think they must have used another
port of entry, any help would be appreciated.

more and more frequently. If you have not already done so, please log
onto www.jewishgen.org/jgff and using the ENTER/MODIFY procedure
enter and register all the surnames of interest to your family research.
As you learn about more names and places of origin, they can always be
added, but only **you** can keep your own listings up to date.

how to find a ship's manifest on the EIDB #general

Ellie Weld <ellieweld@...>

I have just had my first experience with the Ellis Island database, looking
for my grandparents and my uncle who sailed >from Southampton,England in
March 1895. Somehow (I've not been able to replicate the search) I found a
passenger record for my uncle Percy RUBINSTEIN, aged two, who arrived in
New York on the ship Berlin >from Southampton on March 12, 1895.

But despite searching on all variations of the name RUBINSTEIN, I have not
been able to find passenger records for Percy's mother and father Matilda
and Isaac. I find it hard to believe that a two-year-old would be
travelling without his parents, or at least his mother; and I know that
they did all end up in the US together.

Furthermore, the page >from the ship's manifest that is purportedly related
to the passenger record for Percy is for a different ship (the SS Patria)
sailing >from a different port (Hamburg) in a different month in 1895 (hard
to read, but I think it's July).

I've tried looking through the discussion group archives, but there is so
much material relating to EIDB passenger records that I couldn't pick out
relevant messages. If anyone has encountered a similar set of problems I
would be very grateful to know what your solution is.

Genealogy of Hagaon Rav Yosef Zecahriah SHTERN #lithuania

Steve Sidney <sbsidney@...>

Dear Group

I have just recently subscribed to this list.

I am trying to more accurately trace my family tree back to Rav Yoesf
Zechariah SHTERN who was the Head of the Beth Din in Shavel in the late
1800's.

Whilst there is a lot of information regarding his lineage, there
appears to be very little about his sons daughters.

My family connection is that my late mothers father, my Zeide's father
was married to a daughter of the Rav. SInce he was married twice I do
not know >from which marriage this relate to.

Unfortunately I do not have her name and can find no record of this
information.

I would appreciate any information that would help in this regard.

My Grandfathers name was ABRAHAM DUSHEIKO and his Father's name was
LAPIDUS DUSHEIKO.

Kind Regards
